Possessing feet and legs, the Sugata, Knower of the World, unsurpassed Purusha tamer, Teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha, the Bhagavan named Jewel Crest appeared in the world. At the time of that clan goddess, after that Bhagavan had completely passed into Nirvana, the true Dharma disappeared, and at the time of the Dharma of images, there was a king named Light of the Lord of Gods, who always taught the people with the true Dharma like parents. In the country of that king, there was a merchant named Water Treasury, who was very skilled in the science of medicine, well versed in the eight branches of knowledge, and who completely protected and healed all the sufferings of sentient beings caused by the disharmony of the four great elements. At the time of that clan goddess, that merchant Water Treasury had a son named Water Descent, who was ugly and beautiful in appearance, whom many people liked to look at, who was naturally quick-witted, who was well versed in all treatises, and who was not ignorant of letters, drawings, arithmetic, and numbers. At that time, in the kingdom of that king, countless hundreds of thousands of sentient beings were tormented by various sufferings of disease, so that they had not even a little joy in their minds. Then, the merchant's son Water Descent saw those countless hundreds of thousands of sentient beings suffering from the pain of disease, and generated a mind of great compassion, thinking: These countless sentient beings are tormented by unbearable suffering, and my father, the merchant, is very skilled in the science of medicine and well versed in the eight branches of knowledge, and although he is able to heal various diseases caused by the increase and decrease of the four great elements, he is old and frail, and his body is weak and short, and he has to go with a cane, so he cannot go to villages, cities, and towns to protect the suffering of disease. Now, countless hundreds of thousands of sentient beings are afflicted with serious illnesses and cannot be completely protected, so now I should go to my father, the great physician.

Go to the villages and inquire about the secret medical practices for healing diseases. If you can learn them, go to villages, cities, and towns, and heal all kinds of diseases of sentient beings, so that they may experience happiness for a long time. Then, the merchant's son thought in this way and went to his father. He touched his father's feet with his head, paid homage, respectfully folded his palms, and sat down to one side. He asked his father with these verses: I wish to inquire about various medical practices in order to protect sentient beings. Kind father, please have compassion and explain them to me. When the body decays, how do the great elements increase and decrease? Also, at what time do many diseases tend to arise? How should one eat and drink to experience well-being, and how can the inner fire of the body not weaken or be harmed? Sentient beings have four types of diseases: wind, bile, phlegm, and combined disorders. How should these be treated? When does wind disease arise? When does bile disease flare up? When does phlegm disease stir? When does a combined disorder occur? Then, having heard the merchant's son's request, he spoke in verses: Now, relying on the ancient sage's healing medical practices, I will explain them to you in detail, step by step. Listen well and save sentient beings. Three months are the season of spring, three months are called summer, three months are the season of autumn, and three months are called winter. This is calculated from one year, so I will explain each set of three months separately. If two months are considered one season, then one year has six seasons. The first two months are the flower season, the third and fourth months are the hot season, the fifth and sixth months are the rainy season, the seventh and eighth months are the autumn season, the ninth and tenth months are the cold season, and the last two months are the snow season. If you understand the distinctions in this way, you can administer medicine without conflict. If you can properly adjust your diet according to these seasons, food will be digested quickly, and many diseases will not arise. If the seasons are reversed and the four elements are disordered, then if there is no healing medicine,
