When it trembled and shook, inconceivable and wonderful things manifested, and the gods scattered Mandarava flowers and large Mandarava flowers upon the Bhagavan. After making an especially excellent offering, they again entreated the Bhagavan, saying: "Bhagavan, we four great kings each have five hundred yaksha retinues. We will always protect and guard this sutra and those who preach the Dharma in those places, and we will protect them with the light of wisdom. If there are any words or meanings of this sutra that are omitted, we will remember them and not omit them. Please grant us the door of the especially excellent dharani so that we may perfect it. Furthermore, wherever this supreme king of sutras abides, we will greatly increase the sentient beings there and ensure that they do not quickly decline." At that time, when the Bhagavan taught this Dharma in the midst of many retinues, countless sentient beings gained the courage of great wisdom, accumulated countless stores of merit, were freed from the harm of sorrow, and gained a mind of great joy. They became extremely skilled in various treatises, attained the path of definite emergence, and became irreversible, quickly realizing enlightenment. This is the twelfth chapter, the chapter on the protection of the country by the four great kings, from the Sutra of Golden Light, the Supreme King. The Sutra of Golden Light, the Supreme King, volume seven. Then, the Bhagavan said to the venerable Shariputra: "Shariputra, there is a Dharma teaching called the Dharani of Non-Attachment. It is a Dharma to be realized by Bodhisattvas, embraced by past Bodhisattvas, and is the sustenance of Bodhisattvas." After he said this, the venerable Shariputra entreated the Bhagavan, saying: "Bhagavan, what are the words and meanings of what is called Dharani?" Bhagavan,

The one called "The Dharani of the Deceased" is not a direction or a place, nor is it not a direction or a place. After thus asking, the Blessed One spoke to the Venerable Shariputra: Shariputra, you are diligent in the Great Vehicle, and you have great faith in the Great Vehicle, and you have made the Great Vehicle your teacher, very good, very good! As you have said, the so-called dharani is neither a direction nor a place, nor is it not a direction or a place; it is neither Dharma, nor is it not Dharma; it is neither past, nor future, nor present arising; it is neither a thing, nor is it not a thing; it is neither a cause, nor is it not a cause; it is neither a formation, nor is it not a formation; there is no Dharma that arises, nor is there any Dharma that ceases. However, for the benefit of the Bodhisattvas, it is taught as such. The power of the qualities of this dharani, and the way of the true path, and the establishment of power and strength, are the qualities of the Buddhas, the discipline of the Buddhas, the training of the Buddhas, the secret intentions of the Buddhas, and the source of the Buddhas' birth. Therefore, this dharani without manifest attachment is called the supreme and magnificent category of Dharma. After thus speaking, the Venerable Shariputra said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, Sugata, please explain to me the ritual of this dharani. If the Bodhisattvas abide in this, they will not turn away from the unsurpassed Bodhi, and they will fulfill their true aspirations, and they will obtain the fearlessness of no place and self-nature, and they will obtain rare and wonderful things, and they will abide in the Noble Path, all of which is for the sake of obtaining this dharani. The Blessed One said: Shariputra, very good, very good! It is so, it is so! As you have said, whichever Bodhisattva obtains this dharani, that person is a Buddha.

It should be understood that there is no difference from (the Buddha). If someone makes offerings and reverence to that Bodhisattva, treats him as a teacher, and gives him material possessions, it should be understood that this is making offerings to all the Buddhas. Shariputra, if any other person hears this dharani and then receives, holds, reads, recites, and deeply believes in it, and reveres and serves it in this way, as if there were no difference from the Buddha, then by this cause and condition, he will obtain the unsurpassed fruit. Then, the Bhagavan spoke the dharani mantra: Tadyatha. Sandharani. Utadharani. Su-sampratishthite. Sunama. Supratishthite. Vijaya-bala. Satya-pratijna. Su-aroha. Jnana-prati. Utpadani. Avanavani. Abhishincani. Abhivaya-hara. Shubha-vati. Sunishrita. Bahu-gumbha. Abhivada Svaha. The Bhagavan said: Shariputra, if any Bodhisattva dwells in this word of the dharani without attachment and remembers it correctly, then that person, even if he goes through one kalpa, or a hundred kalpas, or a thousand kalpas, or a hundred thousand kalpas, has already ultimately generated pure aspirations, and swords, sticks, poisons, water, fire, and fierce wild animals cannot harm his body, it should be understood in this way. Why is that? Shariputra, this dharani without attachment is the mother of the Buddhas of the past, the mother of the Buddhas of the future, and the mother of the Buddhas who are now dwelling. Shariputra, if someone fills the three thousand great thousand worlds of countless tens with the seven precious things and offers them to the Tathagata, and for countless kalpas makes offerings of clothes and various supreme and wonderful foods, in comparison, if someone holds this dharani, even just one sentence, the merit arising from this is extremely great. Why is that? Shariputra, this dharani without attachment is a name of the profound Dharma, it is the Tathagata.
