Therefore, great joy arises, so the first ground is called the Joyful Ground. Extremely subtle defilements and all faults of immoral conduct are completely purified, therefore the second ground is called the Stainless Ground. The light of wisdom and immeasurable samadhi cannot be shaken or subdued, and the dharani that holds what is heard becomes the root. Therefore, the third ground is called the Luminous Ground. The supreme wisdom cultivated by skillful means becomes independent and is extremely difficult to obtain. Furthermore, the afflictions that are to be abandoned by seeing and cultivating, which are difficult to subdue, are subdued. Therefore, the sixth ground is called the Manifest Ground. There is no interruption to the uncontaminated, signless mental activity, and the samadhi of liberation is cultivated for a long time. This ground is completely purified and unobstructed. Therefore, the seventh ground is called the Far-Going Ground. Having become independent by cultivating signless mental activity, one is no longer disturbed by the afflictions. Therefore, the eighth ground is called the Immovable Ground. Having gained independence in demonstrating all kinds of different Dharmas
