It is called perfecting the pāramitā. Sons of good family, Bodhisattva-Mahāsattvas perfect the pāramitā of ethics by relying on five dharmas. What are the five? Having the three types of actions completely purified, not manifestly accumulating the causes and conditions of the afflictions of all sentient beings, cutting off the gates of bad destinies and opening the gates of good destinies, the Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas correctly transcending karma, and whatever it is that completely perfects all merits. Sons of good family, this is called the Bodhisattva-Mahāsattvas' perfecting the pāramitā of ethics. Sons of good family, Bodhisattva-Mahāsattvas perfect the pāramitā of patience by relying on five dharmas. What are the five? Being able to subdue the afflictions of desire and hatred, without cherishing body and life, not seeking happiness and making awareness pacified, contemplating past actions, even if encountering suffering, being able to accept it willingly, generating thoughts of love and compassion, completely maturing the roots of virtue of sentient beings, and whatever it is that has attained the profound non-arising dharma patience. Sons of good family, this is called the Bodhisattva-Mahāsattvas' perfecting the pāramitā of patience. Sons of good family, Bodhisattva-Mahāsattvas perfect the pāramitā of diligence by relying on five dharmas. What are the five? Not being inclined to dwell together with afflictions, not engaging in happiness until merit is completely perfected, not generating thoughts of weariness towards practicing various austerities, completely gathering with great love and compassion, completely maturing all sentient beings with skillful means of benefiting, and whatever it is that aspires to completely cultivate the irreversible ground. Thus, it is called accomplishing the perfection of diligence. Son of good family, Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas rely on five dharmas to perfect the perfection of meditation. What are the five? In order to completely gather virtuous dharmas and not make distinctions; constantly aspiring to liberation and not clinging to the two extremes; after obtaining supernormal knowledge, aspiring to fully ripen the roots of virtue of sentient beings; completely purifying the realm of dharma, thereby removing the defilements of the mind; and completely cutting off the root of the afflictions of sentient beings. Son of good family, this is called Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas perfecting the perfection of meditation. Son of good family, Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas rely on five dharmas to perfect the perfection of wisdom. What are the five? Constantly making offerings and closely relying on all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, as well as those who are clear and skillful in means, without generating weariness and without turning away; with regard to the profound dharmas spoken by the Tathagatas, constantly delighting in hearing them in their minds, without generating weariness; having no thought of contentment; delighting in discriminating with the wisdom of ultimate truth and conventional truth; quickly abandoning all the afflictions to be abandoned through cultivation; and manifesting all the worldly debates and the five sciences. Abiding the mind comfortably on all dharmas that are unborn and unceasing from the beginning, neither existent nor non-existent; abiding the mind comfortably on the ultimate and supreme meaning of all dharmas, separately examining them in a stainless and pure manner; abiding the mind comfortably on the suchness of the mind that has completely transcended all signs, without manifest action, without conduct, not different, and immovable; abiding the mind comfortably on the conventional truth for the sake of benefiting sentient beings; and abiding the mind comfortably on the simultaneous and equal practice of calm abiding and insight. Son of good family, this is what is called the perfection of aspiration of the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas. Son of good family, Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas rely on five dharmas to perfect the perfection of power. What are the five? With the power of true wisdom, thoroughly knowing the behavior and good and bad of the minds of all sentient beings; causing all sentient beings to enter into the extremely profound and vast Dharma; thoroughly knowing the karmic conditions of the cycles of rebirth of all sentient beings as they truly are; distinguishing and comprehending the three faculties and natures of sentient beings with the power of true wisdom; and properly and truly teaching sentient beings, thereby
