I will not slander the pure Dharma, nor despise the Sangha of the Noble Ones. For sentient beings who have not generated roots of virtue, I will cause them to generate them. For those who have generated roots of virtue, I will cause them to increase and expand, and to fully mature. For this purpose, it should be known that in all realms of the world, all those sentient beings, however many there may be, will be encouraged to realize the six perfections. Then, the Bodhisattva Akashagarbha, Brahma, Indra, the Four Great Kings, and many hosts of gods, arose from their seats, bared one shoulder, folded their palms, and respectfully bowed their heads to the feet of the Bhagavan. They said to the Bhagavan: "Bhagavan, in whatever place we properly expound this extremely excellent Sutra of Golden Light, that place will possess four benefits. What are the four? First, the king's armies will be strong and prosperous, there will be no opposing enemies, they will be free from disease and long-lived, auspicious and happy, and the Holy Dharma will flourish and spread. Second, the consorts, maids, princes, and ministers within the palace will be harmonious and without strife, free from deceit and slander, and will be granted favor and respect by the king. Third, monks, Brahmins, and the people of the land will practice the true Dharma, be free from disease and happy, there will be no sudden deaths, and they will accomplish much merit. Fourth, in these three times of past, present, and future, the four great elements will be in harmony, and the gods will constantly bless and fully protect them. Loving-kindness and compassion will be equal, they will do no harm, and there will be no thought of harming. People will take refuge in the Three Jewels, and all will accomplish the practice of enlightenment. These are what are called the four benefits. Bhagavan, we also, in order to constantly propagate this Sutra widely, for the sake of that person who thus upholds this Sutra,

Attending and practicing medicine in the place where they reside. The Blessed One said: "Good, sons of good families! Good! Good! It is just so. It is just so. By spreading this extremely vast King of Sutras of diligent mind, you will cause the true Dharma to abide in the world for a long time." This is the third chapter, the chapter on distinguishing the three bodies, from the King of Sutras, the Supreme Golden Light Sutra. Then, the Bodhisattva Beautiful Crest, having personally heard the extremely vast Dharma in the presence of the Blessed One, felt joyful and elated. Thinking with one-pointed mind, he returned to his dwelling. At night, while sleeping, he dreamed of a golden drum, its light blazing intensely, like the sun. From that light, countless Buddhas of the ten directions appeared, seated on beryl seats under jeweled trees, surrounded by hundreds of thousands of attendants, expounding the Dharma. A Brahmin struck the golden drum, producing a great sound. From that sound, extremely vast verses of Dharma for confessing sins appeared, and Beautiful Crest, having heard them, remembered them all completely, remaining in one-pointed mindfulness. At dawn, surrounded by countless hundreds of thousands of attendants, carrying offerings, he came out of the city of Rajagriha and went to Vulture Peak Mountain, arriving in the presence of the Blessed One. He prostrated at the feet of the Blessed One, scattered flowers and incense, circumambulated three times to the right, and then sat to one side, folding his palms respectfully, gazing at the face of the Blessed One, and said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, in my dream, a Brahmin struck an extremely vast golden drum, producing a great sound, and from that sound, extremely vast verses of Dharma for confessing sins appeared, which I have completely memorized. Blessed One, with great compassion, please allow me to recite them." Then the Blessed One's

I pray in verses before you: In my dream last night, I saw a great golden drum, Its shape was exceedingly excellent, Filled with light shining everywhere, Like the orb of the sun, Its light pervaded all, I saw the ten directions filled. I saw many Buddhas, all of them, Underneath precious trees, Seated on seats of lapis lazuli, With retinues of hundreds and thousands, immeasurable, Reverently surrounding and gazing. Then a Brahmin, Struck the great golden drum, From the sound of that great drum, Came forth this excellent verse: From the golden light drum came forth an excellent sound, Pervading all the three thousand great thousand worlds, The unbearable suffering of the three lower realms, And whatever many sufferings there are of humans, By the power and strength of the golden drum's sound, May all afflictions and obscurations be completely pacified, Like the Sage, the Bhagavan, May fear be dispelled and may there be only happiness. The Bhagavan, in the great ocean of samsara, Having accomplished the accumulation of all deeds, knowing all, Making sentient beings possess the limbs of enlightenment, In the end, may they turn towards the ocean of qualities. May all who hear this sound of the holy golden light drum, Obtain the voice of Brahma, Having obtained the supreme fruit of enlightenment, May the excellent wheel of Dharma always be turned. May life abide for incalculable eons, Explaining the Dharma as it is, may it benefit beings, Having cut off the stream of many afflictions and sufferings, May desire, hatred, ignorance, and so forth be pacified. Whatever sentient beings are in the lower realms, Their bodies covered by great blazing fire, If they hear this holy drum sound, May they be freed from suffering and take refuge in the Buddha. May all accomplish the knowledge of previous lives, Remembering hundreds of thousands of past lives, Remembering the chief of the Sages, May they hear the profound teachings of the Tathagata. By the power of hearing the holy sound of the golden drum, Always attending upon the Buddhas, Having completely abandoned all sinful deeds, May they practice only pure virtue. All beings, gods and humans, Who reverently make single-pointed prayers, Having heard this holy golden drum sound, May their intentions all
