, together. The great saint paid homage to him. In order to beg for alms, that hero went out again. Then, the merchant's child, grabbing the edge of the robe, took that monk away, for the purpose of offering food. Then, that main merchant, seeing that little boy, grabbing the edge of the robe of the monk who had great magical powers and was without desire, felt fear and his hair stood on end, and said: 'The supreme one has also come to my house!' He quickly knelt down at the feet of the monk, and the child released his grip on the robe. That child also grabbed (the monk's feet), and earnestly begged for forgiveness. He took the bowl from the hands of that most excellent being who wanted to benefit beings, and filled the bowl with sālu vegetable food, and then called to the child, saying: 'Come quickly, give this to (the monk).' Then, that intelligent child, diligently washed his hands, took the bowl filled with food, and offered it to the monk without desire. After offering it, he immediately paid homage to the monk's feet. The monk without desire took the bowl, went to the temple and ate. With a mind of peaceful awareness, at that time he became without desire. From then on, another child, with a mind of jealousy, had great faith in the heretics, and therefore did not make offerings to the Dharma. With only a mind of anger, on another day, taking various kinds of food, gave abundantly to the monk without desire. 'Whatever merit there is from the alms I give to you, may I therefore become the lord of the earth, even more than that merchant's son!' Then, all the heretics, and at that time the wives of the Brahmins, then all the people gathered together and fought with each other. 'Children, you don't know to come, why do you go to visit those bald heads?' 'If these people don't even have a place for me, then where do others go to dispel sorrow?' That child developed such hatred towards beings. The bridge of Dharma, praised by the Buddha, and the temples and supreme stupas on the earth, were destroyed by the heretics. They also developed all kinds of angry thoughts towards that excellent merchant's son. 'Where will the giving of alms to this bald head go?' The mind seized by the path of evil, was completely annoyed.
