That lord, without examining the nature of my self, arises with the egoistic clinging of 'I,' which is a universally arising phenomenon. Others are those arising from time, emanated by the holder, and inevitably arising, such as: Isvara (lord), the giver, time, the chief, the agent, the non-agent, yoga, valid cognition, pure, impure, the inner self, purusha (person), the pervader, life, sentient being, consciousness, alaya (storehouse consciousness), the knower, the seer, the object, the subject, knowledge, the knowable, what is to be understood, born of power, son of power, what is to be said, and what is not to be said. Secret Lord, yogis, desiring liberation, first examine such characteristics of the self. Secret Lord, furthermore, among individual childish beings who are like cattle, once in a hundred times, a concept of Dharma arises, such as: 'One should abide in fasting.' Just thinking this in their mind, they generate satisfaction and repeatedly become accustomed to it. Secret Lord, this is like the seed from which virtuous actions arise, the first thought. Because of this cause, they give alms to parents, sons, daughters, friends, and relatives on those days that have the characteristics of that cause. This is like a sprout, the second stage. Furthermore, they also give alms to those who do not know, which is like a trunk, the third stage. Furthermore, they completely seek out worthy vessels and give alms, which is like leaves, the fourth stage. Furthermore, they joyfully give alms to the lama or musician, which is like a flower, the fifth stage. Furthermore, they give alms to those who delight the mind, which is like a fruit, the sixth stage. Secret Lord, furthermore, they keep the precepts in order to be born in the heavens, which is like nourishment, the seventh stage. Secret Lord, furthermore, when with such a mind wandering in samsara, from some virtuous friend they hear this word

Having heard the sound, (thinking:) These gods are great gods! They give happiness to all beings. You should respectfully offer to them, and everything will become prosperous. They are like this: Maheśvara and Brahmā, as well as Viṣṇu, Nandikeśvara, and Ugra, Śoṣaka, similarly, the sun, moon, water god, Ugly Body, Bestower of Wealth, Indra, Unpleasant Eye and various beings, Yama, Time, Name, Nirvāṇa, and the one called Lord of the World, Fire and the son of extreme reverence, similarly, the goddess who averts asceticism, Lotus and the dwelling Nāgas, Wealthy One and the one called Conch, Karkoṭaka, Great Lotus, Possessor of Lineage and many Crests, Always Infinite Primordial God, similarly, gods and श्रेष्ठ ऋषि, Vedas, the one born from the Vedas. Wise one, please make offerings! After hearing such words from that, the mind became very delighted, and at that time, with great respect, he diligently made offerings to them. The Lord of Secrets is the supreme breather for each individual child being who wanders everywhere in saṃsāra; this is the one who has become power; it is said by the victors in the eighth consciousness. Lord of Secrets, furthermore, the distinction of what is proclaimed in its entirety, and those who abide in that distinction, generate wisdom for the sake of mere meaning, and they think that it also exists, exists, considering emptiness alone as real. Lord of Secrets, those ones do not fully understand emptiness. Emptiness is neither real nor unreal, neither existent nor nonexistent, nor both. If there is no conceptualization or non-conceptualization there, then how can one investigate emptiness there? Those who do not understand emptiness, they do not understand nirvāṇa. Therefore, through real and unreal, through destruction, understand emptiness. Then, Vajrapāṇi again requested the Bhagavan: Bhagavan, please explain those distinctions of mind. After making such a request, the Bhagavan said to the Lord of Secrets, Vajrapāṇi: Lord of Secrets, listen to the characteristics of the distinctions of mind! Lord of Secrets, for that mind, this is the mind of desire and
