From the Great Net of Illusion, this is the fifth chapter, which is a sequence of the expanded wisdom of secret mantras. Then, the Bhagavan, the Great Vairocana Vajra Tathagata, spoke thus to Vajrapani: "Listen with a mind of equanimity to the various hand mudras that arise truly from the Vajra of the Three Kayas of Wisdom. By merely forming these mudras, one is liberated from all sins. Here, the body is blessed, and if one meditates on one's own form, one can even attain Buddhahood. What need is there to mention other accomplishments?" Forming fists with both hands and raising both thumbs is the mudra of the Tathagata, the blessing of the body. From that, tucking the left thumb inward and raising the right thumb is the mudra of the Lord of the World, the blessing of speech. From that, tucking the right thumb inward and raising the left thumb is the mudra of Vajradhara, the blessing of mind. Forming fists with both hands, raising the left index finger, and grasping it with the right fist is the mudra of the Great Vajra Vairocana. Sitting in the posture of a Bodhisattva, placing the left hand on the lap, and pressing the right hand on the earth is the mudra of Akshobhya. From that, making the right hand the supreme giving mudra is the mudra of Ratnasambhava. From that, making both hands in the manner of meditation is the mudra of Amitabha. From that, making the right hand the fearlessness-giving mudra is the mudra of Amoghasiddhi. Making both hands in the Vajra-binding mudra and raising the middle fingers side by side is the mudra of Vajrasattvamā. From that, bending the first joint of the middle fingers, making it like a jewel, is the mudra of Vajraratnamā. From that, making the middle fingers like the petals of a lotus in the shape of a ring is the mudra of Vajradharmamā. From that, retracting the middle fingers inward is the mudra of Vajrakarmamā. Joining both hands with the palms hollow, making the two index fingers like rings, and making the tips of the thumbs like eyes is the Buddha.
