The four castes are not established. Brahmin, like this: Again, some men have four sons, and they are named Joy-maker, Life-maker, No-sorrow, and Hundred-years. Lotus Heart, among the sons born to that man, does Joy-maker make people happy? Does Life-maker make people live? Does No-sorrow make people feel good? Does Hundred-years live to be a hundred years old? It is not so. Brahmin, those people should be distinguished by names, not by castes. Why is that? Because they are all born of the same father. For the sake of convenience, they are named father, mother, brother, and relatives, and that is the caste. There is nothing else other than that kind of knowledge. Brahmin, consider it well yourself. What are the Brahmin caste, the Kshatriya caste, and the Vaishya caste? All substances are greatly different with hands, hunchbacks, disabilities, measles, leprosy, vitiligo, etc. Flesh, marrow, skin, spine, ribs, abdomen, and face are all made by their own karma. It is impossible to become a Brahmin among such beings. Because of what distinguishes the caste, the caste does not exist, the distinction does not exist, and the four castes are not established. Therefore, Brahmin, I say this to you: The so-called Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras of this world are all the same, and there is no difference at all. Therefore, give your beautiful daughter to my son, young Tiger-ear, as a wife, and I will give whatever value and desire you ask for. Having heard such words, the Chandal King Trishaṅku and the Brahmin Lotus Heart said this: Have you also read the Vedas of definite speech? The Vedas of sacrifice? The Vedas of poetry? The Vedas of governing the country? The ritual of the Vedas of longevity?

Venerable, have you read the inner lunar mandala? Furthermore, have you also studied the branch of knowledge, the analysis of things, auspicious omens, and divination? Also, have you read the movements of Rahu, the movements of the stars, and the movements of the sun? Furthermore, have you read the extensive treatises of the world, the Pratimoksha Sutra, the Vyakarana, and the half-moon treatises? When he asked this, the outcaste king Tresangku said to the Brahmin Lotus Essence: Brahmin, it is indeed so, I have extensively read those again and again. Brahmin, in this way, I have attained the perfection of wisdom here. Therefore, I shall explain to you the common Dharma of the Brahmins through inference. Brahmin, in the first kalpa in the past, it was like this: the so-called Brahmin caste, the Kshatriya caste, the Vaishya caste, and the Shudra caste, all of these were the same, without any difference. Among the different sentient beings, and likewise among the similar ones, some sentient beings cultivated and guarded a single rice field and claimed it as their own. Those such as them were designated as Kshatriya caste, Kshatriya caste. Brahmin, furthermore, among those sentient beings, another sentient being thought thus: what are the diseases that completely obstruct, the obstacles of tumors, and the obstacles of pain? I shall abandon all obstacles and go to the forest, and from grass, trees, leaves, petals, and branches, I shall make grass huts and leaf huts, and meditate and dwell there. In order to seek food at the appropriate time, I shall go to the village for alms in the morning. Then, the sentient beings dwelling in the city thought thus: alas, these sentient beings are extremely ascetic, having completely abandoned self-grasping, they have transcended villages, cities, regions, and countries, therefore, they are designated as "those who rejoice outwardly," "those who rejoice outwardly." Moreover, those sentient beings who delight in the city respect them, regard them as gurus, are intimate with them, make offerings to them, and think that they should give alms to them.
