In order to distinguish the meaning of the holy and the meaning of worldly words, Bodhisattvas study treatises on grammar. Why do Bodhisattvas study treatises on grammar? Because they want to adorn with completely pure words, and impure words cannot clearly show the meaning, to know and comprehend all meanings, with correct words not damaged by arrogance, to turn away from evil views, and in order to skillfully know the methods of taming sentient beings, Bodhisattvas study treatises on grammar. Why do Bodhisattvas study treatises on medicine? In order to separate sentient beings from the one hundred and four inauspicious diseases, and for the sake of loving-kindness and compassion for all sentient beings, to cause sentient beings to generate faith, and thus to generate joy by being free from disease, and thus having generated joy, they will constantly remember the Buddha, and in order to bring sentient beings across with great compassion, Bodhisattvas study treatises on medicine. Why do Bodhisattvas study worldly crafts? In order to benefit sentient beings, because it is easy to obtain wealth, to cause sentient beings to generate faith, etc., because they know all worldly things and destroy arrogance, in order to tame sentient beings, and in order to eliminate all that is obscured by conditioned dharmas, Bodhisattvas study crafts. If Bodhisattvas do not study these five sciences, then they will never be able to attain the omniscient wisdom in unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Therefore, in order to attain unsurpassed enlightenment, one should study the five sciences. Bodhisattvas should know gratitude, repay gratitude, and should explain and indicate the things that are explained to sentient beings. How should it be explained? In order to attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, one should explain having the five sciences. There are also two ways of explaining: explaining in sequence

Me. (This is) the completely pure exposition. So, how is it a gradual exposition? First, explain the perfection of generosity, and then after that, from the perfection of discipline to the perfection of wisdom, and for the sake of knowing and repaying kindness, keeping the meaning in mind and abiding in accordance with the Dharma, this is called gradual exposition. So, what is called the completely pure exposition? If the listener is sitting and the speaker is standing, then it should not be explained to him. If the listener finds fault with the Dharma or finds fault with the speaker, then it should not be explained to him. If the listener relies on the person and does not rely on the Dharma, because he does not rely on the Dharma, then it should not be explained to him. If the listener relies on the letter and does not rely on the meaning, then it should not be explained, and even if he does not rely on the guiding meaning, but relies on the definite meaning, then it should not be explained. Why? Because that person does not respect the completely pure Dharma of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. If the speaker and demonstrator also respect the Dharma, and the Dharma listener listens attentively with a respectful mind and without arrogance, this is called the completely pure exposition. Furthermore, what is called gradual exposition is the complete exposition. What is called the complete exposition is the exposition of one sentence, or one verse, or half a verse from the twelve scriptures, and it also possesses the sound, meaning, and Dharma of the words, and the Dharma and meaning that are shown are also for the purpose of making people happy, praising, and rejoicing, showing at the appropriate time, sometimes scolding and rebuking, sometimes showing directly and honestly, sometimes showing metaphors, showing as appropriate, sometimes showing it closer and easier than that, and sometimes showing it in an easy way to enter as desired, this is called the supreme Dharma gradual exposition of the Bodhisattva's knowledge and repayment of kindness. Furthermore, what is called the completely pure exposition is that the Bodhisattva Mahasattva cultivates loving-kindness towards enemies and hatred, and with loving-kindness teaches the Dharma in many ways to sentient beings with sins, negligent people, and lazy people, making them rich.
