Chapter 9: Approaching. Chapter 9: Approaching. The Great Skillful Means Sutra of Repaying the Buddha's Kindness. Volume 7, the last. Furthermore, the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas who know how to repay kindness, repay kindness, and the great skillful means practitioners who benefit and bring happiness to sentient beings, if they know the time and opportunity, teaching and taming will not be harmful. Son of good family, the Buddha appeared in the world, called the Fearless King, the Thus Come One, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened One, endowed with knowledge and conduct, the Well-Gone, the Knower of the World, the Unsurpassed Charioteer who tames beings, the Teacher of Gods and Humans, the Buddha, the World Honored One, descended into the world and worked for the benefit of those with fortune. After working for the benefit of those with fortune, he completely entered Nirvana. After Nirvana, while practicing the Holy Dharma, there was a Brahmin's son with a straight mind and sharp wisdom, who observed the five precepts and upheld the Holy Dharma. At another time, the Brahmin's son went to another country to seek wealth. Because the road to go was very dangerous, he went with five hundred travel companions. After arriving at the dangerous place with those travel companions, there were five hundred wild men living in that dangerous place, who constantly robbed the passing travelers. At that time, those wild men robbed those travelers, and the leader of the wild men sent a person to observe and scout how those travelers were traveling. At that time, one of those wild men was previously friendly and acquainted with the Brahmin's son. He came to those people first and said to the Brahmin's son: Son of good family, you should know this: tonight, in the first half of the night, the enemy will come. In any case, you must find a way to escape, so that you will not be harmed or blamed. At that time, after the Brahmin's son heard those words, he felt as uncomfortable as if he was choked, unable to swallow or vomit. If he told his friends, he was afraid that his friends would kill that person. If his friends killed that person,

My friends will experience countless sufferings in the three lower realms. If I don't tell my friends, the enemy will kill them. If my friends are killed, the enemies will fall into the three lower realms and experience countless sufferings. Thinking this way, in order to benefit sentient beings and create a method of happiness, even if I myself fall into the three lower realms and experience suffering, it is easy. Thinking this way, I took up the sword and killed the person who was going to slaughter, and made my friends happy. At that time, the friends saw that such a thing had happened, and said to the son of the Brahmin: Son of the Brahmin, you are the best among men, very virtuous, why are you doing such a great sin today? At that time, the son of the Brahmin knelt on the ground, folded his palms, and with a surprised mind said to his friends: Today I have committed a great sin that should not be done, and that is for the benefit of sentient beings and for the happiness of my friends. The friends said: You killed a person, how can we say that we have gained happiness because of it? The son of the Brahmin said: The person I killed is a cruel enemy. This enemy came to kill you friends. I killed this person for the sake of you friends, so you can safely return to your homeland. Even if I suffer the suffering of hell beings, it is easy. Then, the five hundred friends cried out loudly and said: Under the sky, there is nothing more precious than life. Among fears, there is nothing more terrible than death. Therefore, all sentient beings, for the sake of their body and life, will even give up gold, silver, jewels, land, wives, children, food, and clothing. Today we have once again gained the opportunity to be reborn. They said this, son of the Brahmin, you are willing to endure the suffering of the three lower realms for the sake of sentient beings, we deeply remember your deep kindness. Because we remember this deep kindness, today we generate the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment.
