However, if one knowingly and intentionally speaks incorrectly, there is fault, and it does not count as taking refuge in the Three Jewels. Question: If one mentions the Buddha and the Dharma but not the Sangha, does it count as taking refuge in the Three Jewels? If one mentions the Dharma and the Sangha but not the Buddha, is it permissible to take refuge? If one mentions the Buddha and the Sangha but not the Dharma, does it count as taking refuge in the Three Jewels? The Buddha replied: None of these are permissible; they do not count.
