So she ate with the blind man, and then said to the king, "Please grant me this blind man. If you grant him to me, my heart will be satisfied." The king said, "Daughter, are you possessed by demons? Or are you mad? Or are you infatuated? Why do you live with that blind man? Don't you know? In the past, the king of Varanasi took a wife for his son De-ton and gave her away in charity. Now the prince has gone to sea, and if he does not return, why do you want to be the wife of a beggar?" The daughter replied, "Even if I lose this life, I will not abandon this blind man." When the king heard this, he did not go against his daughter's wishes, summoned the blind man, and placed him in a secluded place in the palace. Then the king's daughter went to the blind man and said, "Do you know? Now I will live with you as husband and wife." De-ton said, "Whose daughter are you, that you think of living with me as husband and wife?" She replied, "I am the daughter of King Li-shi-bar." De-ton said, "You are the king's daughter, and I am a beggar. How can we respect each other?" The wife said, "I will sincerely serve you and will never go against your wishes." Thus they lived together for ninety days. One day, the wife went out without telling her family, and returned after a long time. De-ton said to his wife, "Where did you secretly go? You did not tell me, where did you go, and from where did you return?" The wife said, "I did not go secretly." De-ton said, "Whether you conceal it or not, who knows?" The wife was unhappy, felt disappointed, and with tears in her eyes, she said this and vowed, "If I have secretly left you, may your eyes never be healed."
