Endowed, Well-Gone, Knower of the World, Unsurpassed Tamer of Beings, the Teacher King, having appeared in the world, countless individual beings, billions, trillions, hundreds of thousands, relied on the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. After that Buddha passed into nirvana, during the time of practicing the Dharma of images, there was a place called Varanasi. The great king called Varanasi possessed wisdom and always governed the country with righteous Dharma, and the people were also happy and prosperous. That great king ruled over sixty small kingdoms and had eight hundred cities, but the king had no son. Therefore, for the sake of having no son, he made offerings to the gods of the world and all the gods for twelve years without weariness or fatigue, and as a result, the great queen had a son. After ten months were complete, she gave birth to a son. That son was also handsome and beautiful, possessing perfect marks and signs, and as soon as he was born, the great ministers and all the small kings of the border regions gathered together to examine the prince's signs, and the prince was naturally one who did not know anger and was a virtuous person. His name was also given as Prince Kshanti (Patience). Prince Kshanti grew up and loved giving alms and possessed wisdom. He developed great compassion for many sentient beings. At that time, that great king had six ministers who were naturally angry, lived by deceit and trickery, and cut off others for no reason, and everyone disliked and hated them in their hearts. Those six great ministers knew that there were defects in their own bodies, so they were always jealous. They did not like that prince. At that time, the great king was afflicted with a serious illness and was tormented by the disease. He became weak and emaciated, and his life was near death. Prince Kshanti asked the ministers, "Is my father the king seriously ill? Will there be an obstacle to his life?" The ministers angrily said to the prince, "The king's life will not be long." Why? Because good medicine cannot be found, therefore his life will not be long either. The prince said this

Upon hearing this, they became extremely unhappy and fainted to the ground. The six great ministers went to a secluded place and discussed, saying, "If we do not eliminate this Prince Kshanti (Patience), we will never be at peace." After deliberating, one minister said, "If this prince has no fault, how can we eliminate him?" Another minister said, "I have a way to eliminate the prince." Having said this, he went to where the prince was and said to him, "We have searched for medicine in the territories of sixty border kingdoms and eight hundred cities, but we have not found it." The prince said, "What kind of medicine does the king need that it cannot be found?" The minister said, "Your Highness, do you know? The most precious medicine for the king is the eyeball and foot of a person who, from birth to death, does not know how to be angry. If such medicine can be found, the king's life can be saved; if it cannot be found, the king will not live. Such a thing has not been found anywhere!" Upon hearing these words, the prince felt unhappy and his heart was filled with sorrow. He said to the ministers, "I now possess such qualities." Why? Because from birth until now, I have never been angry. The minister said, "Your Highness, even if you possess such qualities, this matter is extremely difficult to do." Why? Because in this world, there is nothing more precious than one's own body. The prince said, "Minister, what you say is not true. If my father can recover from his illness, even if I give up hundreds of thousands of bodies, it is possible, and it is not difficult. What more to say about giving up this impure body of mine?" The minister said, "What do you intend to do, Your Highness, regarding such a matter?" After that, Prince Kshanti became very happy, and his heart was filled with joy. He thought, "If this medicine can cure my father's illness, then the time to act quickly has come." Thinking this, he went into the palace, went to his mother's presence, bowed his head to her feet, folded his palms, and said to his mother, "Now I will offer my body as medicine for my father. If it can save his life, I will not regret it."
