Then, the Bhagavan retracted the rays of light, and those rays circled his body seven times, then disappeared into the crown of his head. Seeing this, Ananda knew in his heart that all the assembled retinue were filled with doubt. Therefore, in order for the Tathagata to reveal his skillful means, for the future beings to generate the eye of wisdom, for all sentient beings to cross the river of craving and reach the other shore to attain happiness, and for all sentient beings to remember and know the profound kindness of their parents, teachers, and lamas, he rose from his seat, arranged his robes, placed his upper garment over one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, pressed it to the ground, folded his palms together, and addressed the Bhagavan thus: "Venerable Bhagavan, I, Ananda, have been attending upon the Buddha and have seen you smile. Surely there is a profound reason for this. In order to dispel the net of doubt of the many in attendance, please, Bhagavan, reveal it. Please, Buddha, explain it." The first chapter, the introduction, from the Sutra of the Great Skillful Buddha Repaying Kindness. Second, the Chapter of Service. At that time, in that moment, in that gathering of many attendants, a lotus tree made of the seven precious substances appeared from the earth itself. Its trunk was made of silver, its petals of gold, its base of crystal, and it was adorned all over with a net of pearls. Then, the Bhagavan Shakyamuni Buddha arose from his seat and sat in the lotus in the lotus posture. As soon as he sat down, he manifested a completely pure body. From that body, he manifested the collection of bodies of the five paths. From each collection of bodies, he manifested a hundred thousand different forms. From each of those different forms, he manifested hundreds of thousands of collections of bodies. From each of those collections of bodies, he manifested collections of bodies equal to the number of grains of sand in four Ganges Rivers. From each of those collections of bodies equal to the number of grains of sand in four Ganges Rivers, he manifested collections of bodies equal to the number of atoms in the four continents. From each of those collections of bodies equal to the number of atoms, he manifested three thousand great

He displayed a collection of bodies as numerous as the dust particles in the great lotus-store world realm. For each of those collections of bodies as numerous as dust particles, he displayed collections of bodies as numerous as dust particles in hundreds of thousands of billions of Buddha-fields in each of the ten directions. He manifestly displayed collections of sentient beings' bodies that were as limitless as the expanse of space, equal to the realm of phenomena, and inconceivable in number. At that time, after the Thus-Gone One had manifestly displayed that many collections of bodies, he spoke these words to Kundawo and the bodhisattvas, great beings, who had gathered and assembled from the ten directions, and to the many retinues: 'Sons of good family, today the Thus-Gone One will speak the true words of omniscient wisdom. Although the Dharma cannot be expressed in words, the Thus-Gone One, by means of skillful means, will reveal the nameless and formless Dharma as names and forms. For example, when the Thus-Gone One was first born and wandered in samsara, he completely experienced all those various collections of bodies as numerous as inconceivable dust particles. Thus, because he experienced all those collections of bodies, there is no sentient being who has not been the Thus-Gone One's parents. And the Thus-Gone One has not been the parents of sentient beings. For the sake of all who have become parents, he constantly practiced even what was extremely difficult to practice, and gave away what was extremely difficult to give away, the essence of his limbs, his head, eyes, brains, lands, cities, wives, sons, daughters, cattle, horses, chariots of the seven precious jewels, vehicles, clothes, food, drink, bedding, medicine for illnesses, and all necessary items, without exception. With extremely diligent effort, he guarded morality, gave alms, listened extensively, meditated on concentration, practiced wisdom, and practiced all difficult practices. Without discouragement or fatigue, he continuously exerted himself in diligence, also to serve his parents, to be grateful, to repay kindness, and to quickly lead all sentient beings to the unsurpassed perfect
