In order to repay the kindness of the Buddha, in order to make all sentient beings remember the heavy kindness, in order to save all sentient beings from the ocean of suffering, in order for each individual to want to serve their parents, this light appeared. At that time, in that assembly, tens of thousands of Bodhisattvas, who were the leaders and teachers of many Bodhisattva retinues, stood up from their seats, draped their robes over one shoulder, knelt on their right knee, and said to the Bhagavan: 'Bhagavan, by the blessings of the Bhagavan, we will go to the world of Saha, make offerings and respect to the Tathagata Shakyamuni Buddha, and may you bless us to listen to the excellent Sutra of Great Skillful Means for Repaying the Kindness of the Buddha.' Then, the Buddha said to those Bodhisattvas: 'Noble sons, after you go to the world of Saha, you should make offerings and respect to the Buddha Bhagavan, and generate the concept of being extremely difficult to meet. Why is that? Because the Buddha Shakyamuni endured unbearable austerities for countless eons, and with great compassion made this vow: 'If I attain perfect enlightenment, in a sinful world, in a place with mountains, gravel, rubble, thorns, etc., even in a place where sentient beings are full of afflictions, committing the five heinous crimes and fully practicing the ten non-virtuous deeds, I will attain perfect enlightenment there, and for the sake of benefit and happiness, cut off all suffering, make them possess all happiness, perfect the Dharmakaya, and attain complete Nirvana.' The Buddha Bhagavan initially made such a vow, so after you go to that world, you should act as if the Buddha himself has come and is personally dwelling there.' After saying this, all those Bodhisattvas agreed and said: 'We will act according to the teachings of the Bhagavan.'

Those heroes, each surrounded by countless Bodhisattvas, hundreds of thousands of kotis, went to the Saha world. Wherever they went in the world, those worlds shook in six ways, emitting great light. From the sky above, the gods rained down mandarava flowers (mandārava, Devanagari: मन्दारव, Romanized Sanskrit: mandārava, literal meaning: pleasing flower) and great mandarava flowers (mandārava, Devanagari: मन्दारव, Romanized Sanskrit: mandārava, literal meaning: pleasing flower). The great light illuminated everything, and through miraculous power, worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges also shook. In addition to that, countless divine musical instruments, hundreds of thousands of kinds, sounded naturally in the sky above without being played. Those Bodhisattvas arrived at Vulture Peak Mountain, and there they met the Tathagata, bowed their heads to his feet, circumambulated the Buddha three times, and then sat down on one side. At that time, the Tathagata Shakyamuni, with light of five colors, illuminated the west, beyond countless Buddha lands, hundreds of thousands of kotis, revealing a world called the Pure Land. In that world, there was a Buddha named Sun Moon Lamp Light Buddha, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened One, endowed with knowledge and conduct, the Gone to Bliss, Knower of the World, the unsurpassed Charioteer who tames beings, Teacher of Gods and Humans, Buddha, Bhagavan, residing in the Buddha land called Sukhavati. That Buddha land was very flat, the ground made of Vaidurya, with checkered patterns drawn with pure gold, and seven kinds of precious trees growing. Those trees were of moderate height, adorned with flowers, fruits, branches, and leaves. The gentle breeze stirred them, producing beautiful sounds, and each being who heard these sounds would not tire of them. At times there were springs, lakes, and bathing ponds, filled with water possessing eight qualities, and the bottom of the ponds was covered with golden sand. On the four sides of the ponds grew fragrant lotus flowers and white lotus flowers (puṇḍa, Devanagari: पुण्ड, Romanized Sanskrit: puṇḍa, literal meaning: white lotus).
