It shook in six ways, and a great light shone everywhere. From the sky above, the gods rained down mandarava flowers and large mandarava flowers like rain. The great light illuminated, and by miraculous power, it shook worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges. Furthermore, countless hundreds of thousands of divine musical instruments, without being played in the sky above, sounded as if self-sounding. Those bodhisattvas came to Mount Gridhrakuta (Vulture Peak), and before that Tathagata, they bowed their heads to his feet, circumambulated the Buddha three times, and then sat down on one side. At that time, Shakyamuni Buddha, with light of five colors, illuminated to the west a pure realm called the Pure Land, beyond countless billions of hundreds of thousands of Buddha-fields. In that world, there is a Buddha named Sun Moon Light, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Gone to Bliss, Knower of the World, Unsurpassed Guide of Beings, Teacher of Gods and Humans, Buddha, the Blessed One, residing in the Buddha-field called Sukhavati (Land of Bliss). That Buddha-field is very even, the ground is made of vaidurya (lapis lazuli), interwoven with pure gold threads, and adorned with seven kinds of precious trees. Those trees are as tall as an arrow's flight, adorned with flowers, fruits, branches, and leaves. The gentle wind blows, producing beautiful sounds. The sounds are pleasing to all beings who hear them. At times there are springs, lakes, and bathing ponds, filled with water possessing eight qualities, and the bottom of the ponds is covered with golden sand. On the four sides of the ponds, lotus flowers, pundarika flowers, parushaka flowers, and other blue, yellow, red, and white flowers with sacred fragrance bloom, covering the water like chariot wheels. In that water, there are also various kinds of birds, making very pleasing and melodious sounds.

Within it, there is a ship made of seven precious materials, where many sentient beings play and enjoy themselves as they wish. In between those precious trees, lion thrones of equal height, measuring one krosha in height, are arranged, adorned with seven precious materials. Divine garments are successively spread on the thrones, the fragrance of divine incense permeates, and divine flowers are scattered upon them. The Tathagata Sun-Moon Lamp Light sits in the lotus position on that throne, with immeasurable hundreds of thousands of billions of Bodhisattvas arrayed before him, bowing with folded palms, and each individually requests the Tathagata with harmonious words, saying: "Bhagavan, what is the cause, what is the reason, that this excellent light, possessing blue, yellow, red, and white colors, extremely bright, and incomparable, appears from the eastern direction to these many retinues? All those who are touched by the light, their bodies and minds feel happiness. For the sake of compassion, please, Bhagavan, explain it." Then, the Bhagavan spoke these words: "Noble sons, listen well and keep it well in mind, and I shall explain it to you. From here to the east, beyond immeasurable hundreds of thousands of billions of Buddha-fields, there is a pure land called the Saha world. There, there is a Buddha named Shakyamuni, the Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha, Vidyā-caraṇa-saṃpanna, Sugata, Lokavid, Anuttara-puruṣa-damya-sārathi, Śāsta deva-manushyānām, Buddha, Bhagavan, surrounded by many retinues. All the retinues are skilled in skillful means, proclaiming the sutras of repaying kindness, for the benefit and happiness of all sentient beings, in order to eradicate the thorns of wrong views from the root of all sentient beings, in order to make the newly aspiring Bodhisattvas irreversible and steadfast on the path of Bodhi, in order to place all the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas on the path of the ultimate one vehicle, in order to enable the great Bodhisattvas to quickly realize enlightenment.
