Nowhere was the teaching present. After going for alms in the morning, he encountered a naked ascetic, a follower of the six teachers, and reported in detail, "He spoke harsh words to me." At that time, the Bhagavan smiled, and from his mouth emanated light with various colors, illuminating the eastern direction. Beyond countless hundreds of thousands of kotis of Buddha-fields, a world called "Supreme Teacher" appeared. In that world, there was a Buddha named "Joyful King," a Tathagata, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha, complete in knowledge and conduct, Sugata, Lokavidu, unsurpassed guide of beings, teacher of gods and humans, Buddha, Bhagavan, residing in a Buddha-field called "Well-Arranged." That Buddha-field was very even, the ground made of vaidurya, with patterns drawn with pure gold, and seven kinds of precious trees grew there. Those trees were as tall as an arrow's flight, adorned with flowers, fruits, branches, and leaves. When moved by a gentle breeze, they produced beautiful sounds. The various beings who heard those sounds never tired of them. From time to time, there were springs, lakes, and bathing ponds, filled with water possessing eight qualities. The bottom of the ponds was covered with golden sand. On the four sides of the ponds were lotus flowers, white lotus flowers, parushaka flowers, and other blue, yellow, red, and white flowers, the size of chariot wheels, completely covering the surface of the water. In that water were also various kinds of birds, making very pleasing and melodious sounds. In the ponds were boats made of seven kinds of precious jewels, and many beings played and enjoyed themselves there as they wished. Between those precious trees were lion thrones, each one yojana in height, adorned with seven kinds of precious jewels. Divine cloths were laid on the thrones in layers, divine incense burned, and divine flowers were scattered all around. The Tathagata Joyful King sat on such a precious throne.

When the king was seated in the lotus position, countless hundreds of thousands of Bodhisattvas came before him, joined their palms in reverence, and requested the Thus-Gone One with harmonious words, saying: "Bhagavan, for what reason and what cause does this beautiful light, endowed with blue, yellow, red, and white colors, so radiant and incomparable, appear from the western direction to these many retinues? All those who are touched by this light experience happiness in body and mind. Out of compassion, please, Bhagavan, explain this." To this, the Bhagavan spoke thus: "Sons of good family, listen well and keep it firmly in mind, and I will explain and tell it to you. From here to the west, beyond countless hundreds of thousands of world realms, there is a Buddha-field called 'Enduring.' There, a Buddha named Shakyamuni, the Thus-Gone One, the Foe-Destroyer, the Perfectly Awakened One, endowed with knowledge and conduct, the Blissful One, the Knower of the World, the unsurpassed Guide of beings to be tamed, the Teacher, the Victorious One, the Buddha, the Bhagavan, surrounded by a great retinue, teaches the sutra of great skillful means for repaying kindness to all the retinue. For the sake of benefiting and bringing happiness to all sentient beings, for the sake of completely eradicating the thorn of wrong views from all sentient beings, for the sake of ensuring that newly aspiring Bodhisattvas do not turn back from the path of enlightenment and remain steadfast, for the sake of placing all Hearers and Solitary Buddhas on the path of the ultimate single vehicle, for the sake of swiftly awakening great Bodhisattvas and repaying the kindness of the Buddhas, for the sake of reminding all sentient beings of the heavy burden of kindness, for the sake of liberating all sentient beings from the ocean of suffering, for the sake of all ordinary individuals desiring to serve their parents, this light has appeared." At that time, in that assembly, tens of thousands of Bodhisattvas who were the leaders and teachers of the great retinue rose from their seats and bared one shoulder.

Kneeling with his right knee on the ground, he entreated the Blessed One, saying: "By the blessings of the Blessed One, may we go to the world realm of Saha, make offerings and service to the Tathagata Shakyamuni, and listen to the sacred scripture of repaying the kindness of the Buddha, the great skillful means. Then, that Buddha spoke to those Bodhisattvas, saying: "Noble sons, after you go to the world realm of Saha, you should make offerings and reverence to that Blessed One Buddha, and generate the thought of being extremely difficult to encounter. Why is that? Because Shakyamuni Buddha practiced extremely difficult practices for countless billions of kalpas, and with great compassion made the following aspiration: 'If I attain complete enlightenment, in a sinful world realm with mountains, gravel, rubble, thorns, and so on, where sentient beings are also afflicted with defilements, committing the five inexpiable sins and fully engaging in the ten non-virtuous actions, may I manifest complete enlightenment in that place, and for the sake of benefit and happiness, may I completely cut off all suffering, be fully endowed with all happiness, perfect the Dharmakaya, and enter into complete nirvana without remainder.' Because the Blessed One Buddha initially made such an aspiration, after you go to that world realm, you should abide as if the Buddha himself has departed and as if the Buddha himself is present." Then, all those Bodhisattvas unanimously replied: "We will act according to the Blessed One's command." Each of those Bodhisattvas, surrounded by countless billions of Bodhisattvas as retinues, went to the place where the world realm of Saha was. Wherever they went in the world realms, those world realms shook in six ways, and great light also shone everywhere. From the upper sky, the gods scattered Mandarava flowers and Mandara
