and generated the mind of Bodhi. After saying this, everyone generated the mind of Bodhi. At that time, the five hundred wild men also said this: Since you say that you are the most supreme and most virtuous of all, why do you commit such a great sin? The son of the Brahmin said: I have committed a great sin that should not be done, and that is for the benefit of all sentient beings, and for the protection of your bodies and lives. Then, those wild men said to the son of the Brahmin: What benefit is there to us in your killing people? The son of the Brahmin said: I knew long ago that you wild men were here, but I did not say it, nor did I tell the king, nor did I tell my friends, because I did not say it, your bodies and lives were at peace. At that time, those wild men heard these words and thought in their hearts: Our bodies and lives have finally survived, thinking like this, they folded their palms to the son of the Brahmin and said: Great man, very good! You have great compassion, from now on, please tell us what we should do. The son of the Brahmin said: Quickly generate the mind of unsurpassed Bodhi! Then, those wild men, in order to repay their kindness, immediately generated the mind of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. The Blessed One said to Ananda: A Bodhisattva who abides in diligence, perfectly adorns Bodhi, and desires to repay the kindness of the Buddha, should always generate and remember the thought of all sentient beings as if they were an only child. Son of the lineage, it should be understood in this way, do not think that the son of the Brahmin at that time was another person, do not look at it that way. The one who became the son of the Brahmin at that time is now myself. Because of that cause, that condition, having transcended ninety kalpas of samsara, he quickly attained the perfect Buddhahood of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Furthermore, the Bodhisattva practices great skillful means, knowing and repaying kindness is like this: Buddha

When the Blessed One was dwelling in the Grove of Light, a certain monk was afflicted with a disease of boils on his body, and pus and blood constantly flowed from his body, so that everyone disliked him. He was placed outside the monastery in a dilapidated dwelling. At that time, the Tathagata, through the power of his miraculous abilities, blessed him without any of the many attendants knowing, and the Tathagata alone went to the sick monk. The Tathagata thought to wash him, and for the sake of the well-being of the gods of the desire realm, Indra, the lord of the gods, surrounded by countless hundreds of thousands of divine attendants, showered divine flowers like rain. Various kinds of divine music were played, and they remained in the sky above. At that time, Indra, the lord of the thirty-three heavens, holding in his hand a sacred vase filled with the pure water of great compassion, made from a hundred merits, bowed his head at the feet of the Tathagata, greeted the Tathagata from the front, and sat to one side. At that time, the Tathagata extended his hand endowed with a hundred merits, and from his five soft and long fingers emitted great rays of light, illuminating the gods and the many attendants. After the many attendants were seated, the Tathagata himself went to the sick monk, and emitted rays of light from the crown of his head, illuminating the sick monk. As soon as the sick monk touched the light, the suffering of the illness was eliminated. His body, covered with pus and blood from the wounds, sought refuge, but he was unable to prostrate to the Tathagata with his body. The Tathagata then took the precious vase from the hands of Indra, the lord of the gods, with his right hand, and poured water from the top of the sick monk's head. With his left hand, he washed and anointed the wounds on the sick monk's body, and all the wounds of the sick monk were healed following the Tathagata's hand. Thus, after all the wounds were healed, the monk became joyful and delighted, and prostrated to Buddha Shakyamuni, saying: "I prostrate to the father of great compassion! I prostrate to the supreme, unsurpassed king of physicians!" He said, "If the diseases of my body are healed today, then only the disease of the mind remains."
