Translation completed. The (precepts) obtained by all immeasurable sentient beings are also the same as this. If one hundred thousand or one million Arhats pass into Nirvana, if one initially receives the precepts from those Arhats, then even if the Arhats pass into Nirvana, the precepts will not be lost. The precept of not drinking alcohol is that, from the beginning to the end of this body, within the scope of the entire three thousand great thousand worlds, each breath can obtain the manifest form of the precept. When initially taking the precept, one says not to drink all alcohol. Even if all alcohol is exhausted, the precept will always exist and will not be lost. Question: When initially taking the precept, one takes the precept of not engaging in sexual misconduct through the three doors with all women. If one later takes a wife, will this precept be lost? Answer: It will not be lost. Why? Initially, one obtains the precept of not engaging in sexual misconduct with women, and this is my wife, so it is not sexual misconduct. This precept will not be lost. Applying this principle to all situations is consistent, whether it is the eight precepts, the ten precepts, or obtaining precepts from sentient and non-sentient beings, it is the same. The two hundred and fifty precepts are also such that each sentient being individually obtains seven times seven, twenty-one precepts. If they are distinguished, they will become twenty-one precepts. All sentient beings will generate the seven sins of body and speech, and the generation of these sins also arises from three causes and conditions. That is, it arises from desire, it arises from hatred, and it arises from ignorance. Thus, the seven sins arise from three causes and conditions. Therefore, the seven unwholesome sins multiplied by three are twenty-one. If one turns back from sin, it will become a precept, just as one sentient being has twenty-one manifest forms of precepts, so it is with all sentient beings. Applying this principle to that, it is possible to obtain countless precepts at once, but it is impossible to lose them all at once or to disappear at once. The so-called loss of precepts means

If the root of discipline is damaged, it will not increase further and further. If one first abandons the discipline and then takes it up later, one will not obtain the discipline. For example, if the root of the eight-branch precepts of one day and one night is damaged, then later the eight precepts, or the five precepts, or the ten precepts, or the complete precepts, or the meditative discipline, or the non-outflow discipline, none of these disciplines can be taken up. If the root of the five precepts is damaged, even if one takes up the eight precepts, or the ten precepts, or the complete precepts, or the meditative discipline, or the non-outflow discipline, one will not be able to obtain all of them. If, after the five precepts have been damaged, one abandons the five precepts and takes up the ten precepts, that is not appropriate. If, after abandoning the five precepts, one takes up the five precepts, that is acceptable. Even if one takes up the eight precepts, or the ten precepts, or the complete precepts, or the meditative discipline, or the non-outflow discipline, one will not obtain any of the precepts. If the root of the ten precepts or the complete precepts is damaged, increasing further and further, or abandoning the precepts and taking up the precepts, is the same as what is said about the five precepts. Question: Among the meditative discipline, the non-outflow discipline, and the individual liberation discipline, which of these three disciplines is considered the most excellent? Answer: The meditative discipline is the most excellent. Furthermore, the individual liberation discipline is also excellent. What is the reason for this? If the Buddha descends into the world, this discipline will exist. The meditative discipline and the non-outflow discipline exist at all times. The individual liberation discipline can be obtained from sentient beings and non-sentient beings. The meditative discipline and the non-outflow discipline cannot be obtained from all sentient beings. The individual liberation discipline is obtained through loving-kindness towards all sentient beings. The meditative discipline and the non-outflow discipline are not obtained through loving-kindness. The individual liberation discipline is the basis for upholding the Buddha's teachings, with the seven assemblies of disciples existing in the world, ensuring the continuous flow of the fruits of the three vehicles.
