Having spoken, what is there to definitively decide about the meaning? Some sons of the gods take refuge in one Buddha, and some take refuge in the Buddhas of the three times. In short, it is to take refuge in one Buddha. Question: By taking refuge in what is it said that one has taken refuge in the Buddha? Answer: Taking refuge is the wheel of speech, it is taking refuge in the qualities of the omniscient, the non-learner. Question: Does one take refuge in the Form Body or does one take refuge in the Dharma Body? Answer: One takes refuge in the Dharma Body, one does not take refuge in the Form Body, because form is not the Buddha. Question: If the Form Body is not the Buddha, then why does drawing blood from the Buddha's body become an action of uninterrupted karma? Answer: The Form Body is the vessel of the Dharma Body, it is the abode of the Dharma Body. Therefore, harming the Form Body becomes uninterrupted karma, but it is not because the Form Body is the Buddha that it becomes uninterrupted karma. Question: By taking refuge in what is it said that one takes refuge in the Dharma? Answer: Taking refuge is the wheel of speech, it is taking refuge in the attainment of the end of desire and non-desire, and in Nirvana, this is called taking refuge in the Dharma. Question: Does one take refuge in the attainment of the end of one's own body, or does one take refuge in the attainment of the end of another's body? Answer: Taking refuge in the attainment of the end of one's own body and the attainment of the end of another's body is called taking refuge in the Dharma. Question: How does one take refuge in the Sangha? Answer: Taking refuge is the wheel of speech, it is taking refuge in the field of merit, the qualities of the learners and non-learners, the Shravakas, this is called taking refuge in the Sangha. Question: Does one take refuge in the Sangha of conventional truth or does one take refuge in the Sangha of ultimate truth? If one takes refuge in the Sangha of ultimate truth, then when the Buddha previously received the three refuges in Deva and Pari, the name Sangha would exist later.

The race that says "take refuge," that is, the Sangha of ultimate truth, is always present in the world. Answer: The Sangha of conventional truth is the basis of the Sangha of ultimate truth, therefore it is said, "There will be a Sangha in the future, take refuge in it." Furthermore, it is also said in this way in order to honor and respect the Sangha of conventional truth. Among all the retinues of the Buddha, the Sangha is the most excellent retinue of the Buddha. For example, yogurt comes from milk, butter comes from yogurt, and the essence of butter comes from butter. The essence of butter is like the most excellent jewel. The Sangha, the retinue of the Buddha, is also like that. If there is a Sangha of near-dwellers, in which there is an unsurpassed field of merit that has attained the four entrances and the four fruits, then among the ninety-six kinds of heretical retinues, the Sangha is the most precious, the most excellent, and unparalleled. Therefore, there is no contradiction in saying, "There will be a Sangha in the future, take refuge in it." Question: The Buddha himself is the Dharma, the Dharma itself is the Sangha, and the Sangha itself is the Dharma. If it is truly considered that the Dharma is one, then what is the difference or distinction? Answer: Although these Dharmas exist, there is a difference from the point of view of meaning. The so-called "Three Jewels" refers to the great wisdom without teaching and the ground of no learning. The one who possesses all qualities is called the Buddha Jewel. The truth of cessation and the unconditioned are called the Dharma Jewel. The learning of the Hearers, the qualities of the non-learners, and the one who possesses wisdom are called the Sangha Jewel. Distinguishing from the perspective of Dharma, the Dharma without teaching and the Dharma without learning are the Buddha Jewel. The truth of cessation and the unconditioned, which are neither learning nor non-learning, are the Dharma Jewel. The learning of the Hearers and the non-learning are the Sangha Jewel. Distinguishing from the perspective of faculties, the Buddha is the faculty of all-knowing. The Dharma is not the Dharma of faculties. The Sangha is the three uncontaminated faculties.
