Then, like the ten powers of the Tathagata and the ten wisdoms of the Lesser Vehicle, if one practices only one of them, it is sufficient, and others are not needed. Or, if one knows how to recite 100,000 verses of the Sutra Pitaka, then when one is not reciting, the practice of all of them is called regression. The Lesser Vehicle also has the fruit of non-regression. The Intermediate Vehicle also has regression because it is not a fruit. However, for the Buddha, there is no regression because it is not a fruit. That is because there is no lack of diligence in all dharmas. For the Two Vehicles, there is regression from practice. However, for the Buddha, it is not completely certain. It is sufficient to practice one of the ten powers, and there is no need to practice the other nine, so it is called regression. Furthermore, for what should be practiced, there is no regression because it is not needed. For example, if one can recite 20,000 verses of the Sutra Pitaka, then that person, because of diligence, can complete the recitation in one or two days. However, the Buddha can complete it in an instant, and the ten powers are the same. If it is necessary to practice, because limitless deeds can be accomplished in an instant, there is no regression because it is not needed for what should be practiced. Furthermore, for the Buddha, there is no regression because it is not needed for what should be practiced. For example, when wearing a lower garment or offering food, it is not like ordinary people who wear or offer without rules. That is because, in order to benefit sentient beings, whatever activity is beneficial, that activity is done; if there is no benefit, that activity is not done. In this way, for what should be practiced, there is no regression because it is not needed. However, from each individual perspective, there is a need, but it is not completely certain, so it is called the Buddha's inconceivable intention. Questioner: For the Hearers, why do the first three fruits regress, while the last fruit does not regress? Answerer: The first three fruits regress because they have been obtained before. The last fruit does not regress because it has not yet been obtained. For example, if a poor person encounters delicious food, they will not forget it for a long time, and this principle is the same. Furthermore, the last fruit becomes the path of unobstructed endurance and also becomes the path of wisdom liberation. The first three fruits are wisdom obstacles.

The path of non-existence is not, the path of wisdom liberation is not, therefore it reverts. Furthermore, the path of seeing the truth does not revert. The path of thought reverts, because the knot of affliction is cut off by the perception of purity and impurity. The mind has all-pervading afflictions, but seeing the truth does not have all-pervading afflictions. Seeing the truth does not have all-pervading afflictions, and seeing the truth also sees all-pervading afflictions. Seeing the meaning gives rise to the mind of profound meaning, therefore all-pervading afflictions do not revert. Furthermore, the power of the wisdom of seeing the truth is great, like a large tree being pressed down by a heavy object. Because the wisdom of attention and thought is weak, there is reversion. Furthermore, the forbearance of the desire realm and the mind of wisdom of those who wish to see the truth cut off the ninth knot of all-pervading afflictions. The forbearance of the upper realms and the mind of wisdom cut off seventy-two kinds of all-pervading afflictions. Reaching the end of the formless realm, there is no reversion. For that reason, only that is called Bhagavan (Blessed One). Furthermore, the Buddha does not have the appearance of habitual tendencies, but the habitual tendencies of the two vehicles are not exhausted. For example, a monk who always ruminates, like a cow always ruminating, is also because he was a cow for many lifetimes in previous lives and was reborn as a human. For example, a certain monk, even though he has exhausted the outflows, always looks in the mirror, also because he was a woman snake merchant for many lifetimes and was reborn as a human. For example, a certain monk likes to climb beds and ladders, also because he was a monkey for many lifetimes and was reborn as a human. For them, it is not appropriate to be called Bhagavan (Blessed One). Question: Is it said that "Thus I have heard" was heard by me when the Buddha was alive? Or was it heard after the Buddha's Nirvana? In the words of the Dharma treasury, if it is said "I have heard," isn't it a request for the Buddha to teach and explain all the teachings to me without omission? Question: How should the words of the Dharma spoken during the twenty years be taught? Answer: With the skillful means of the Buddha's verses.
