Then, iron hooves were put on the feet of the oxen, sharp swords were attached to their noses, and they were driven to trample the sons of the Shakya clan, making unpleasant noises. The oxen hooves trampled the sons of the Shakya clan, leaving their joints, flesh, skin, and bones finely scattered on the ground like garbage. By the power of the Tathagata's great compassion, they were free from discomfort in mind and body. With ease in body and mind, they generated the mind of enlightenment. Having generated the mind of enlightenment, they developed a mind of equanimity towards all sentient beings. Having developed a mind of equanimity, they were without hatred. Without hatred, they passed away and were born in the heavenly realms. Having been born in the heavenly realms, they examined with their divine eyes the initial cause of their rebirth and said to one another, "We were born as gods by the grace of the Buddha's great compassion, possessing palaces of seven precious jewels and divine garments, with light on our bodies, and endowed with all the enjoyments of music and bliss." Thus, by the miraculous power of the Tathagata, it has become so. Therefore, we too, for the benefit and happiness of all sentient beings, shall generate the mind of great compassion. Wherever the Buddha's teachings are found, whether in villages, towns, mountains, gardens, under trees, around royal palaces, or in houses, wherever this sutra is inquired about, read, recited, or explained, we shall generously offer and give without hesitation. In that place, may the harm of weapons, epidemics, and famine not occur, and may we protect and guard it day and night. Having made such aspirations, the life, strength, body color, and light of those gods became even better than before. They were overjoyed and returned from the direction of the sky. Furthermore, the Tathagata's skillful means, great compassion, and the power of the roots of virtue are inconceivable. At that time, King Virudhaka conquered Kapilavastu (5th century BCE, present-day Nepal) and, after the sons of the Shakya clan were annihilated, selected five hundred Shakya women who were superior to others in every way.

From the ground, surrounded by five hundred girls, playing music, I returned to my country. The consorts and maids gathered in the palace, sitting in the lotus position. Sitting on the seat, I said, "I am happy, it is good!" Then, the Shakya girls said to King Virudhaka, "Why are you happy?" The king said, "I am happy because I have conquered the enemy." The girls said, "You have not won. Even if all four divisions of the king's army rebelled, they could not defeat a single Shakya child. We Shakya people have become disciples of the Buddha, and have no attachment to anything, so you, the king, have only won in name. If you harbor evil thoughts, haven't you been defeated every time you have led the four divisions of your army to Kapilavastu (present-day Nepal) three or four times? When you first launched the army, the Shakya children said this: 'King Virudhaka is shameless, ungrateful, and comes to harm us. If we fight him, there will be no distinction between the wise and the foolish, and black and white will no longer be clear.' We only pretended to be afraid, and in order to make them retreat, everyone vowed this: 'We will shoot arrows together, but we will not harm the other side.' So we deployed the four divisions of the army and met your army forty yojanas ahead. When everyone shot arrows, the arrows rained down. Weren't you, the king, afraid and retreated? Then, after ninety days, you again launched the four divisions of the army and attacked the Shakyas, crossing the border. At that time, the Shakya children discussed this: 'The sinful King Virudhaka, who knows no shame, is now coming to harm us again. We Shakyas vow this: I will shoot arrows at those enemies together, but I will not harm their bodies. Instead, I will cut off all the connections of their armor, exposing them outside their armor.' So the Shakyas shot arrows together, cutting off all the connections of their armor, leaving them naked. Then, you, the prince, were afraid, thinking about what to do if this threatened our lives. So didn't one of the ministers suggest this? The Shakya
