It turned out like this. They asked the king, 'For what reason did you say such a thing?' The king said, 'A Brahmin came from a long way off to beg for my head. And I have already given it away.' The queen and princes, hearing this, threw themselves on the ground, wept loudly, tore their hair, and ripped their clothes, saying, 'Great king, if there is nothing in the world more precious than my body, why do you give away such a difficult thing to give?' At that time, five hundred ministers also said to the Brahmin, 'What use is this smelly, dirty head with pus and blood?' The Brahmin said, 'I need it, I begged for it, what are you asking?' The ministers said, 'You have come to our country, we should also ask, and you should answer truthfully.' After that, the Brahmin answered truthfully, but the ministers were afraid of being separated from their lives, and were afraid, and said nothing. After that, the five hundred ministers said to the Brahmin, 'Don't be afraid, we will give you fearlessness.' They said. Then, they said to the Brahmin, 'Poor Brahmin, what good is that smelly head with pus and blood? We five hundred ministers can each exchange it for a head made of seven jewels, and we can give you whatever you need for seven generations.' They said. The Brahmin said, 'I don't want it.' The ministers were also saddened because they didn't get what they wanted, and they cried loudly and said to the king, 'Great king, for the sake of one Brahmin, abandoning the country, the people, the queen, and the princes, and abandoning us forever, can you bear it?' The king said, 'I give this body away for the sake of all sentient beings.' At that time, one of the great ministers heard the king's words, and thought that the king would surely be devoured by demons and give his body to this Brahmin, which was terrible. Thinking, how can I bear to see the king give up his body, I can't watch. So, he went alone to an empty house.

Then, taking a sharp weapon, he cut off my head. After that, the great king went to the back of the palace wall and summoned the Brahmin, saying, 'Come here, now take my head.' Because of my love and compassion for you, and without going against your wishes, may this act of generosity allow you to obtain the head of wisdom in the future. Saying this, he folded his palms and prostrated to the ten directions. After prostrating, he said, 'May the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the ten directions, with compassion, consider me and bless me to accomplish this wish.' After saying this, he said to the Brahmin, 'Now, take this as a gift.' The Brahmin said, 'The king has great strength, but because he cannot endure the illness, he will harm me. If you, O king, are truly able to do so, then the king himself should untie his hair and hang it on the tree.' When the king heard these words, he felt even greater compassion, thinking, 'This Brahmin is thin and weak, and if he cannot cut off my head, my great vow will not be fulfilled.' So the king himself untied his hair and hung it on the tree, saying to the Brahmin, 'Cut off my head and then place it in my hand, and my hand will give it to you as a gift.' Then, the Brahmin took his sword and swung it at him, but at that moment, the deity of the tree glared at the Brahmin, causing him to faint and fall to the ground. Then, the great king of light said to the tree deity, 'Instead of being my friend, do you hinder and obstruct my virtuous deeds?' Then the tree deity, afflicted with sorrow, cried out, and rain fell as blood from the cloudless sky, and the great earth shook violently. The sun also became unclear and turned dark. Then the Brahmin cut off the king's head and returned to his country. After that, the five hundred princes and ministers collected the relics of the great king of light, built a stupa, and made offerings. The Blessed One said to Ananda, 'At that time, the chief of the ministers, seeing the great king of light making a great offering of his head, could not bear it in his heart, and what he had done in his previous life was'

Now, Shariputra, it is. At that time, the one who became the great radiant king is now the Tathagata Shakyamuni, myself. The Bodhisattva thus vowed to practice the extremely difficult practice. For the sake of all sentient beings, having received the grace of the Buddhas, he manifestly awakened to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. Then, Shariputra, I could not bear to see Nirvana with my own eyes, so I entered Nirvana in advance. In the past, I could not bear to see giving, so I ended my life in advance. If the heads of the wheel-turning kings were completely given away on this single tree in the enclosure behind the palace, what need is there to mention the giving of limbs of the body, hands, feet, and so on? When the Buddha showed the practice of asceticism, countless hundreds of thousands of sentient beings generated the mind of unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. Countless hundreds of thousands of gods and humans attained the fruit of entering the stream up to the fruit of the Arhat. Countless hundreds of thousands of gods and humans generated the mind of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. When the Blessed One had spoken thus, all the many retinues of gods, nagas, yakshas, humans, and non-humans, and so on, departed with great joy. Furthermore, it is like this: In the country of Magadha, five hundred wild men lived in the rocky mountains, constantly committing robbery, with no kindness towards each other. At that time, the king of Magadha deployed four kinds of armies, subdued the wild men, gouged out their eyes, cut off their ears and noses, and abandoned them miserably in the rocky mountains. At that time, the five hundred wild men were suffering from bodily ailments and were on the verge of death. Among those five hundred wild men, there was one who had become a disciple of the Buddha, and he said: We are not far from death, why don't we all take refuge in the Buddha? Then, the five hundred wild men said in unison, "We prostrate to the Buddha Shakyamuni," and at that time, the Tathagata was dwelling on Vulture Peak Mountain.
