Just as he thought, he went to where the Tathagata was, and upon arriving there, he bowed his head at his feet and grasped them with his hands, smearing the poison. At that moment, the poisons turned into nectar and did not harm the Tathagata. Thus, Devadatta's plan did not succeed, and he thought again, "The Tathagata is now alone on Vulture Peak Mountain. I will go to the top of that mountain, roll down a boulder, and kill him." Thinking this, he went to the top of the mountain and rolled down the boulder. Although it injured the Buddha's toe, by the power of my great compassion, I treat enemies and friends equally. Furthermore, in the past, countless eons ago, at that time, there was a Buddha Bhagavan named 'Teacher of Reason,' a Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Sugata, Knower of the World, unsurpassed guide of beings, teacher of gods and humans, Buddha, Bhagavan, who appeared in the world. After that Buddha passed into nirvana, while practicing the Dharma with images, a meditating monk was living in the monastery's garden. At that time, many lice were biting the monk. Then, the monk made a vow to the lice, saying, "When I meditate, do not move, but hide." The lice also did as he said. Later, at another time, an ant came there and said to the lice, "Why are you so fat and have such a good complexion?" The lice replied, "Our master always meditates, so we eat food and drink on time, and therefore we have a good complexion." The ant said, "I will also live with you." Having said this, he lived there together. At that time, the monk was meditating.
