Will attain unsurpassed enlightenment. The king said to Indra: 'Even if an iron wheel, blazing intensely, were to constantly spin on the crown of my head, I would not turn back from unsurpassed enlightenment because of that much suffering.' Indra said: 'Who would believe such words?' Then, the wheel-turning king said to Indra: 'If I do not desire unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, and have deceived you, lord of the gods, may these wounds on my body never heal! If that is not the case, may the blood turn to milk! And may the wounds be healed!' As soon as he made the vow, the wounds were healed. Indra, the lord of the gods, praised the king, saying: 'King, it is very good! It is very good!' 'Great king, you are truly endowed with great compassion, and this is the conduct of great compassion. By practicing such difficult practices, you will soon attain unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. When you attain unsurpassed enlightenment, may you first do this for my sake!' Having said this, Indra, the lord of the gods, illuminated the king's entire body with the light of his body, and together with hundreds of thousands of divine attendants, generated the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. The five hundred princes, seeing that the wounds on their father the king's body had healed and returned to their former state, were overjoyed and bowed their heads at the king's feet, and then sat to one side, folding their palms and saying in unison: 'It is wonderful to do such a thing! Father king, you truly have great compassion for all beings!' The king said: 'Children, if you truly serve me, then all of you generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment!' And so, the princes generated the mind of perfect enlightenment. Similarly, twenty thousand consorts and hundreds of thousands of palace women also generated the mind of enlightenment. At that time, seventeen times the number of beings dwelling in that assembly, equal to the sands of the Ganges River, heard

And the earth, and the self-enlightened ones also generated the mind of enlightenment. Gods, nagas, yakshas, gandharvas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, mahoragas, humans and non-humans, and countless others, having seen and heard such a thing, all generated the mind of enlightenment, rejoiced greatly, and returned. From the Sutra of the Great Skillful Means of Repaying the Kindness of the Buddha, the chapter called "Antidotes" is the third. Fourth: The chapter called "Generating the Mind of Enlightenment." At that time, in that mandala of attendants, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva King of Joy rose from his seat, bared one shoulder of his upper garment, and knelt on his right knee on the ground. Beside the Blessed One Ganava, he folded his palms and bowed, and said to the Blessed One: "How does a Bodhisattva know kindness? How does one repay kindness?" The Blessed One said to the Bodhisattva King of Joy: "Son of good family, listen well. A Bodhisattva Mahasattva knowing kindness is generating the mind of unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment. Repaying kindness is causing all other sentient beings to generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment." He asked: "Generating the mind of enlightenment, how does one generate the mind? By what cause does a Bodhisattva generate the mind of enlightenment?" "Son of good family, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva first generates the mind of unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment, he makes this great vow: 'When I attain unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment, for the benefit and happiness of all sentient beings, I will surely place all sentient beings in the great Nirvana.' Furthermore, one should vow to perfect the Prajnaparamita for all sentient beings. This is called benefiting oneself and others. Therefore, initially generating the mind of enlightenment is called having the cause of enlightenment. It is called having the cause of sentient beings. The meaning of truth

English

It is called having causes and conditions. It is called having the thirty-seven dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment. It is called the basis for gathering all virtuous dharmas. Therefore, a Bodhisattva is called virtuous, called great virtue, and also called the root of virtue for all sentient beings. It is called training the actions of body, speech, and mind of all sentient beings. By training the three evil actions, there is no aspiration in the world that surpasses generating the mind of perfect and complete enlightenment, which is the supreme and unsurpassed aspiration. When a Bodhisattva Mahasattva first generates the mind of enlightenment, they should possess five things. What are the five? They are nature, conduct, sphere of conduct, qualities, and generation. If a Bodhisattva generates the mind of enlightenment in this way, they are called a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, and without a doubt, they will attain perfect and complete enlightenment and will practice the Great Vehicle. Therefore, initially generating the mind of enlightenment will gather all virtuous dharmas. After a Bodhisattva Mahasattva generates the mind of enlightenment, they will attain perfect and complete enlightenment according to their practice. If the mind of enlightenment is not generated, then enlightenment will never be attained. Therefore, generating the mind of enlightenment will obtain the basis of perfect and complete enlightenment. When a Bodhisattva Mahasattva sees sentient beings afflicted by suffering, they generate a mind of loving-kindness and compassion. Therefore, a Bodhisattva, with the mind of loving-kindness and compassion as the cause, will generate the mind of perfect and complete enlightenment. With the cause of generating the mind of perfect and complete enlightenment, the thirty-seven dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment will be accomplished. With the cause of accomplishing the thirty-seven dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment, perfect and complete enlightenment will be attained. Therefore, generating the mind of enlightenment is called the basis or root. Generating the mind of enlightenment will practice the precepts of a Bodhisattva.
