Indra said, "Prince, you are excellent! Very excellent! With extremely brave diligence, you will undoubtedly attain the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. When you attain the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment before long, please first accomplish my benefit." Having said this, Indra, the king of the gods, disappeared into the sky. At that time, the king and queen also went to the presence of that enemy king, and that king also welcomed them from afar and provided the necessary supplies as they wished. At that time, the king and queen explained in detail to that king how the prince had offered his flesh and blood to his parents. Having heard all that had happened, that king, in order to repay the kindness of the prince who had offered his flesh and blood to his parents and served them diligently, assembled the four divisions of his army and waged war against that king and the country of Varanasi. At that time, that king set out with the four divisions of his army and went to the place where he had parted with the prince. He thought to himself, 'If my son has undoubtedly died here, I will collect only the bones of my son and take them back to my country to be honored.' Thinking this, he cried out and wept, and went to collect his son's bones. From afar, he saw that his son's wounds had healed and that he was even better and more beautiful than before, and he came into his presence. Then the king took him into his arms and said, 'Are you still alive?' And the prince told his father the king and the queen what had happened. The king and queen were overjoyed, and all of them rode on ox carts and returned to their own country. Through the power of the prince's merit, they also regained their own country, and they enthroned Prince Siddhartha as king and placed him on the throne. The Blessed One said to Ananda, 'Do you think that the father who was king at that time was someone else? Do not view it that way. Why is that? The father who was king at that time is now my father, who is called Śuddhodana. Do you think that the mother who was at that time was someone else? Do not view it that way, she is now my mother, Divine Beauty (Maya).'

It is so. At that time, do not think that the prince who became known as Dondup (Meaning Accomplished) was someone else. At that time, that prince was me, now known as Shakyamuni. At that time, Indra, the lord of hundreds of thousands of gods, was me, now known as Ajnata Kaundinya. When the Blessed One taught this chapter on serving parents, in that mandala of attendants, twenty million kotis of Bodhisattvas gained the fearlessness of words skilled in the meaning of benefiting and bringing happiness to all beings. Twelve million kotis of Bodhisattvas gained the forbearance of the Dharma of non-arising. Furthermore, countless Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, gathered from the ten directions like specks of dust, abandoned the minds of the two vehicles and reached the ultimate with the one vehicle. Countless Upasakas and Upasikas, like specks of dust, attained from the first fruit to the fruits of the two vehicles. Hundreds of thousands of gods and humans generated the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Moreover, among the many assemblies of gods, nagas, pretas, asuras, gandharvas, garudas, kinnaras, mahoragas, humans and non-humans, some generated the mind of unsurpassed enlightenment, even to the extent of the Shra-

Like many stars being overwhelmed, or like a rainbow coiled by dragons, shimmering and bright, so dazzling that one cannot take their eyes off it. Thinking of it, the light shines so brightly that the mind is bewildered. It dwells resplendently, beyond compare, like the light of a firefly disappearing as soon as the sun rises. Although the sun and moon have hundreds and thousands of rays of light, they are like a pile of coal in the presence of Indra. Although Indra has bright light, in the presence of the light of the Great Brahma, it is like a tile or a pebble. It is like comparing the light of night and precious jewels. Although the Great Brahma King has hundreds and thousands of sacred rays of light, all those lights become like a pile of coal in the presence of the light of the Tathagata. Why is that? Because the color of the Tathagata's light illuminates all the realms of the ten directions. If the beings dwelling there are touched by that light, the blind will see forms with their eyes, the hunchbacked will become upright, those with impaired faculties will have complete faculties and limbs. Those who are intoxicated will regain their memory. In short, all that is undesirable will be removed, and they will obtain what they desire. At that time, in that very mandala of the retinue, seventy Bodhisattva Mahasattvas arose from their seats, bowed their heads to the feet of the Buddha, circumambulated the Buddha hundreds and thousands of times, and then sat down in one direction. All of them, in harmonious voices, praised the Tathagata with hundreds and thousands of verses, such as: Inconceivable Bodhisattva, Non-Conceptual Sound Bodhisattva, Only Bliss Mind Bodhisattva, Immaculate Fame Bodhisattva, Immeasurable Sound Bodhisattva, Great Fame Bodhisattva, Crown Jewel Light Bodhisattva, Steadfast Lion Bodhisattva, Only Joy Bodhisattva, Abandoning Discrimination Bodhisattva, Wisdom Accumulation Bodhisattva, Virtuous Abode Intelligence Bodhisattva, Utterly
