arose. Then, those sentient beings thought thus: "I am alone, without companion or friend, and have dwelt here for a long time because of my long life. Because I have dwelt here for a long time, craving has arisen and I have become unhappy. Alas, if another sentient being with the same fortune as me could be born here, how wonderful it would be!" When my mind prayed in this way, these sentient beings were born here with the same fortune as me. Those sentient beings are emanated by me. I am the master of these sentient beings and things, the sovereign, the creator, the giver, the giver." Those sentient beings also thought thus: "We see that this sentient being is alone, without companion or friend, and has dwelt here for a long time because of his long life. Because he has dwelt here for a long time, craving has arisen and he has become unhappy. Alas, if another sentient being with the same fortune as him could be born here, how wonderful it would be!" When that sentient being prayed in this way, we sentient beings were born here with the same fortune as him. We are emanated by that sentient being. That sentient being is the master of us and things, the sovereign, the creator, the giver, the giver." Then, some sentient beings, their lifespan exhausted, their karma exhausted, and their merit exhausted, died from that place and were reborn here, with the same fortune as humans. Because their faculties were fully matured and they had grown up, they shaved their hair and beards, wore saffron robes, and with true faith, went forth from home into homelessness. Whether they lived in a secluded place, under a tree, or in an empty house, through the cause of diligence, the cause of renunciation, the cause of meditation, the cause of repeated practice, and the cause of proper attention, they touched such a samadhi of mental quiescence. Having thus established their minds in equanimity, they perfectly remembered their previous body. They thought thus: "Brahma is the master of things, the sovereign, the creator, the emanator, the giver, the giver."

That is permanent. That is stable. That is substantial. That is of unchanging nature. Also, because we are emanated by Brahma, we are impermanent. We are unstable. We are unreliable. We are of changing nature, so they think. Like this, some are permanent and some are impermanent, relying on what, dwelling where, and abiding in what place, contemplating the past, some are eternalists, explicitly saying and expressing that some of the self and the world are permanent, this is the first basis. The second is that some ascetics and Brahmins with knowledge, relying on what, dwelling where, and abiding in what place, contemplating the past, some are eternalists, explicitly saying and expressing that some of the self and the world are permanent, that Brahma's view is like this. The statement should be said like this: earth, water, fire, and wind, those are impermanent, unstable, unreliable, and of changing nature. Also, it should be said like this: that which is called mind, that which is called thought, that which is called consciousness, that is permanent, stable, substantial, and not of changing nature. Also, some sentient beings whose lifespan is exhausted, whose karma is exhausted, and whose merit is exhausted, after dying from that place, transmigrate here and share the same fate as humans. The reason why those senses are fully matured and grown up is: having shaved their hair and beard, wearing saffron robes, and with true faith going forth from home to homelessness. Whether they dwell in a secluded place, whether they dwell under a tree, or whether they dwell in an empty house, arising from the cause of diligence, arising from the cause of renunciation, arising from the cause of meditation, arising from the cause of repeated practice, and arising from the cause of proper attention, with these they touch the samadhi of mental tranquility. Having thus entered into equipoise, they think like this: that Brahma is what is seen, because of experiencing it, they say like this: earth, water, fire, and wind, those are impermanent. They are unstable. They are unreliable. They are of changing nature, so they think. Also, it should be said like this: that which is called mind.
