Unlike the permanence in samsara, it is unparalleled. Those who assert permanence, relying on what, dwelling where, and based on what, do they speculate about the past, and openly declare and speak of "the self and the world are permanent"? This is the third basis. The fourth is, those wise ascetics and Brahmins, who assert permanence, relying on what, dwelling where, and based on what, do they speculate about the past, and openly declare and speak of "the self and the world are permanent"? Monks, these who are called ascetics and Brahmins are the same as before. When the mind is in a state of equanimity, with the pure divine eye, surpassing human ability, one sees beings dying and being born, and good complexion and bad complexion, inferior and noble, going to good destinies and bad destinies. Therefore, the self and the world are permanent. From then on, those who assert permanence, relying on what, dwelling where, and based on what, do they speculate about the past, and openly declare and speak of "the self and the world are permanent"? This, up to the fourth basis, is the same as before. Monks, some ascetics and Brahmins assert permanence, they speculate about the past, and openly declare and speak of "the self and the world are permanent," all of which is based on these four bases. Neither more nor less, therefore, those who have fallen into this view, thus hold on to it, thus regard it as supreme. The Tathagata fully knows their true situation, and surpassing them, knows the true situation even more fully. Knowing fully in this way, one does not hold on to it as supreme. Because one does not hold on to it as supreme, one also knows that one has been liberated from suffering. Those who have fallen into this view, their destination is like this, their birth is like this, their future life is like this. The Tathagata fully and truly knows them, and surpassing them, knows the true situation even more fully. The Tathagata fully and truly knows them, and surpassing them, knows the true situation even more fully, therefore one does not hold on to it as supreme. Because one does not hold on to it as supreme, one knows that one has been liberated from suffering, and all feelings have ceased.

Having thus comprehended, [one knows:] 'This is suffering! This is the origin of suffering!' Monks, those other profound and seemingly profound, perfectly pure, and fully developed teachings, I have declared after realizing them through my own direct knowledge, having attained complete enlightenment. And others also speak truthfully and commendably of the Tathagata, in accordance with reality. Monks, those other profound and seemingly profound teachings are as before. Monks, some ascetics and Brahmins speculate on the past, and some are eternalists, saying, 'The self and the world are eternal.' Their explicit statements are based on these four grounds. Relying on what, dwelling where, and based on what, do those wise ascetics and Brahmins speculate on the past, and some are eternalists, explicitly saying, 'The self and the world are eternal,' and their explicit statements are based on these four grounds? Monks, when the time comes for this world to be destroyed, when the world is destroyed, most beings will be reborn in the realm of the gods of streaming radiance. There, they are born of mind, have form, their faculties are not inferior, they are without deficiency, endowed with all limbs and parts, endowed with beautiful color, they travel in the sky by their own power, they have food of joy, they eat food of joy, and they dwell there for a long time due to their long life. Monks, when the time comes for this world to be formed, when the world is formed, the immeasurable mansions of Brahma appear in the empty sky. Then, some beings from the realm of the gods of streaming radiance, having exhausted their life, exhausted their karma, and exhausted their merit, pass away and are reborn in the empty Brahma's mansion. There, they dwell alone, without a companion, without a friend, for a long time due to their long life. Then, after a long time has passed for that being, craving arises, and they become unhappy, thinking, 'Oh, if only another being of equal fate to me would be born here!' As that being thinks this, another being from the realm of the gods of streaming radiance, having exhausted their life, exhausted their karma, and exhausted their merit, passes away and is reborn in the Brahma's mansion, sharing the same fate as that being.
