Predators Many beasts carried the two children away and disappeared, only to return later. Deer and beasts alike carried the prince away, then returned to the place where they played with the prince, uttering sorrowful cries, striking their bodies against the ground as they went. The Brahmin set out on the road and walked on and on. There was a tree by the roadside to which the two children were tied. As he set off again, the two children, longing to meet their mother, clung to the tree trunk and were unable to move. The Brahmin struck them again, and the two children spoke thus: Do not strike us! We will walk on our own. Saying this, they looked up to the sky and spoke again: Gods of the mountains and gods of the forest trees, do you not have a little compassion or concern for us? We are going to be slaves to others on a long road. Having been separated from our mother, our mother will be searching for fruit in the mountains, exposed to the wind and sun. Please do not delay, let her quickly meet us. As they spoke thus, the sole of the left foot of the children's mother, who was on the mountain, itched and trembled, and her left eye also twitched, and milk flowed spontaneously from her two breasts. She thought to herself: Such an ominous sign has never happened before. Could something have happened to my two children? Thinking this, she thought: What is the use of fruit? So she abandoned gathering fruit and quickly prepared to return to her dwelling. At that time, the lord of the gods of the Thirty-Three Heavens, knowing that the prince had given the children to another, feared that the queen might obstruct the good deed she intended, so he transformed himself into a lion and sat in the middle of the road. The queen said to the lion: You are the king of beasts, and I am the queen of humans. Since we both dwell in the mountains, please move a little from the road and let me pass! I have two young, ignorant, unweaned children who have eaten nothing until now and are waiting for me to return. The lion, knowing that the Brahmin had gone far away, moved from the road and let the queen pass. The queen returned to her dwelling and saw only the prince, not the two children. She looked in the hut where she herself stayed, but did not see the children. She looked in the hut where the two children stayed, but did not see the children.

Then, even when searching by the river at the place of Buce, they were not found. Previously, in the mountains where Buce played, deer, antelopes, lions, monkeys, etc., would throw their bodies on the ground in front and make sounds. Previously, the water in the pond of Buce was also seen to be dry. Afterwards, they returned to where the prince was, and going to the prince, asked, "Where are my two sons?" The prince said nothing. The queen said again, "Whenever I picked fruits from the trees and returned to the residence, my two sons would run from afar to greet me, and even if I hit them, they would stand up and jump, shouting, 'Mother is coming, Mother is coming.' When I sat down, both would sit on my left and right. Even if dust got on my shoulders or body, they would wipe it off. Now, where are my sons? If they are not seen, have they been given to someone else? Not seeing them like this, my heart will break. Where are my sons, tell me quickly! I am going crazy." Even after asking two or three times like this, the prince did not answer. The queen said again, being even more tormented by suffering, if there was still a chance of not seeing the two sons, the prince not answering only made her even more crazy and agitated. The prince said, "A Brahmin came from a place called Kailai and begged me for the two sons, so I gave them to him." As soon as the queen heard the prince's words, she immediately fell to the ground like a mountain collapsing, rolling around and wailing. The prince said, "Wait a moment. Don't you remember how we made vows in the past, during the time of the Buddha Dīpaṁkara? At that time, I was a young Brahmin's son. You were a Brahmin's daughter named Sundarīka. At that time, you were holding seven lotus flowers. I had five silver coins, and I bought five lotus flowers from you to offer to the Buddha, and you gave me the remaining two lotus flowers as well, to offer to the Buddha, and you also made a prayer, 'May I always be your wife in future lives.' Didn't I make a vow with you like this at that time? If you are happy to be my wife, do not go against my will. If I am going to give alms, apart from my parents,
