Heaving a deep sigh, with eyes filled with tears, as if falling into a great abyss of darkness, he lowered his head in extreme suffering, holding it with his left hand. Taking a golden vase with his right hand, he spoke thus to the Brahmin boy: "Great Brahmin, come! Come! Holy Brahmin, beautiful of form! Look upon this wretched wife of mine! By this giving, may I quickly attain supreme enlightenment!" Having spoken thus, the Bodhisattva poured a stream of water into the hand of that Brahmin. Then, monks, immediately after King Srideva poured the stream of water, at that very moment, the earth shook in six ways. Then, that Brahmin boy saw the Bodhisattva's giving, and the giving that was even greater than giving, that was exceedingly difficult, and was greatly amazed. Hundreds of thousands of gods dwelling in the sky also uttered sounds of clamor. Immediately after that, meteors fell, directions blazed, and the gods of the sky also beat drums. Then, the Brahmin boy, thinking that the king might not regret it, praised the Bodhisattva, saying: "May there be well-being and auspiciousness!" Having said this, he took Queen Jita'ri and hurriedly went to the hermitage, offering her to the Khenpo. Queen Jita'ri, like a fish taken from water, separated from happiness, tormented by intense suffering, exhausted, with her mind solely on the Bodhisattva, knowing that all beings had fallen into utter darkness, cried out in extreme grief: "King Ki Hude, King Ki Hude!" and began to fast. The shaking of the earth also shook the abode of Indra. By nature, the knowledge of the gods descends to see below, not above. Then, the Lord of the Gods, Indra, thought: "The earth shakes with great renown, whose power is this sign? Whose power is so great? This should be known very clearly." And he began to observe the entire Jambudvipa, and saw the Bodhisattva doing such an extremely difficult deed. Having seen this, he was greatly amazed, the thirty-three gods...

The gods said: Friends, look at the wonderful and rare deeds of King Great Fortune! Who would not pity such a painful, such a lovely, such a cherished wife, and completely abandon her like grass? Friends, it should also be understood in this way that this great being does not hesitate to give away even his own limbs! The gods said: Kausika, it is easier to give away sons and daughters, but to give away limbs like this is unbelievable and very difficult! As they were saying this, the Lord of the Gods, Indra, said: Friends, stop! Do not measure the ocean with a drop of water on the tip of a hair, do not measure the sky with an arm span, do not equate the light of the sun with that of a firefly, do not equate the king of mountains, Mount Sumeru, with a mustard seed. Furthermore, I will do something in front of you all. Then, the Lord of the Gods, Indra, the next morning at dawn, said to the thirty-three gods: Alas! Friends, know this! Having said this, the next morning he arose and, together with the four sons of the gods, descended from the thirty-three heavens and entered a dense forest not far from the city of Arishta, transforming into the appearance of an old Brahmin, showing his body as if it had been sawn off from below the navel, bleeding all over, staggering, the four sons of the gods transforming into the appearance of Brahmins, pretending to be in unbearable pain from the loss of their father, uttering miserable cries, appearing to be carried, thinking: I will show it like this, half of my body has been bitten off and eaten by a tiger. Just as he had thought in his heart, at sunrise, he emerged from that dense forest and headed towards the city, walking everywhere. The smell of blood attracted crows, seagulls, and vultures from above, and dogs and foxes from below, following closely behind, they hurried towards the city gate. Seeing this scene, men and women were filled with compassion, their hearts filled with sorrow, and they spoke to one another.

Ah! Friends, this Brahmin has his waist severed, and his senses are not disturbed. How can he live? Another said: This is not a human being, but a flesh-eater who has come here in human form to eat us. A person with a severed waist cannot live. Hearing these words, the cowardly men began to flee in fear. Another brave man thought to himself: This is a flesh-eater, but even so, while feeling threatened, how can his senses appear so comfortable? I will ask him if he is a human or has become a flesh-eater. It will be difficult for him to speak. If he does speak, it will be amazing. After a while, another person, out of curiosity, asked: Brahmin, are you a human or a flesh-eater? Who cut your body at the waist and made you like this? Where did you come from? Then, the lord of the gods, Indra, showing himself sitting on the throne like this, afflicted by the feeling of intense suffering, spoke these verses at that time: King Śibi, do not be afraid! I am a Brahmin, not a Rakshasa. Because of the sins of past deeds, I have obtained such a state. If I were to tell everything here, all the time would pass. The Lord of Death will come quickly and take my life. In the presence of the Dharma King, all these things must be told. The characteristics of past deeds have come to fruition for me today. Where can I see the lord who is adorned with all virtues, peaceful like the moon, and delights in generosity and discipline? He is as deep as the ocean, as immovable as Mount Meru, the lord of all the worlds. Where does the Dharma King reside? He is the refuge of the frightened and terrified, the best place for beggars to go, possessing pleasant speech, generosity, and discipline. Where does that great self-master reside? Death is approaching me, O Śibi, speak quickly. Who but the compassionate one would give half of their body to anyone? Thus, on the king's road, speaking pitiful, humble, and dejected words, he gradually went to the gate of King Pāla's palace.
