It is the basis of everything and can dispel harm. For diligence, there is nothing difficult to achieve. When the diligent one said this, the craftsman laughed and said: Your words are true and many, and you have spoken of various reasons, but my heart is not satisfied. That is because, without craftsmanship, I have not seen any fruit being achieved. But with craftsmanship, I see that there is fruit. Therefore, only craftsmanship is what people need. Furthermore, even if a craftsman is born into a low caste, kings, ministers, Brahmins, and householders will respectfully treat them without hesitation. Gods and people with various skills will also respectfully treat them well. Likewise, because of the lowly craftsman, both humans and gods will respect them. When the craftsman said this, the wise one just smiled slightly and said: Like wisdom, what people need is neither appearance, nor diligence, nor craftsmanship. That is because, dissolute wisdom, even if it sees a beautiful appearance, will not avoid falling into unfavorable circumstances. Diligence will also not give rise to meaning. Without wisdom, craftsmanship cannot be understood. Therefore, only wisdom is what people need to accomplish all things. Furthermore, through wisdom, one can obtain appearance and craftsmanship, as well as diligence and wealth. People will become beautiful and happy, and through wisdom, one can obtain everything. When the wise one said this, the young man with the power of merit smiled, as if the power of merit was really flowing out of his mouth, and said: Appearance, craftsmanship, and diligence without wisdom are not what people need. What is completely grasped by wisdom is fruitful and what people need. That is indeed the truth, but even that kind of wisdom cannot be obtained without merit. Therefore, only merit is what people need. What is called merit is the extremely lovely fruit, as well as the satisfying fruit, and the delightful fruit.

Gur change. By the merit of obtaining the voice of Brahma, by merit the body color is beautiful. By merits, words are also good. Possessing mindfulness and love, one becomes the chief. In this and that, one becomes wise. Possessing an irreversible retinue. The meritorious one is without disease, by merit one becomes a place of prayer. Merit is complete, one obtains glory, by merits one obtains kingship. Without rival and without harm, by merit enjoyment does not diminish. By merits one also obtains treasures. By merit one becomes a wheel-turning king, the seven jewels go before. One travels everywhere from the space of the sky, and one's glory is equal to the sun and moon. By merit one obtains the moon itself, by merit one obtains the sun itself. By merit one obtains Brahma himself, by merit one obtains Indra himself. Walking in immeasurable palaces, by merit one also becomes a god. Merit is like that, a son of the gods, the powerful Asura king. By merits one abandons the evil realms, by merit one goes to the happy realms. By merits one obtains extremely pleasing and rare flowers. By merits one obtains accomplishment, by merit one illuminates beings. Gods, Asuras, humans, etc., by merit one transforms into true excellence. Thus spoke the youth, Power of Merit, but each held to their own side and did not acknowledge it. Then, Power of Merit spoke to them again: Hey, come here, let us go to a very distant foreign land, and dwell without revealing our attire, in this way, is it appearance that is more convincing to people? Or is it diligence, or skill, or wisdom, or merit that is more convincing? Then those youths said, "Let us do it that way," and listening to the youth, Power of Merit, without informing their parents, without hesitation, they went to a very distant foreign country, entered another royal palace retinue, and dwelt without revealing their attire. Then, those with beautiful appearances, those who were pleasing to see, lived only by stolen enjoyments. The diligent ones, in the swift and rapid and extremely deep rivers,
