Rains of various suitable things fell. After that, a rain of delightful celestial flowers also fell. After that, a rain of celestial jewels fell, and the king's entire palace was covered with various jewels, shining brightly. Then, the gods and humans saw the wonderful manifestations of merit that brought joy, and all those people were greatly amazed, and a genuine appreciation for merit arose, and they were very happy, and they specifically said, 'Oh, how great is the merit of the power of celestial merit!' Then, after some time, the kings under the sun heard of this matter. Having heard it, they were also greatly amazed and said, 'That great being is known for being great due to merit, and is worthy of reverence.' So they all gathered together and equipped the four divisions of the army, namely the elephant corps, the horse corps, the chariot corps, and the infantry corps, and went to pay homage to King Sonam Tob. Descending from their mounts, they approached the feet of King Sonam Tob, joined their palms, and said, 'O god, you are known for being great due to the power of merit, please be our king! We shall be your servants.' Then, King Sonam Tob fully satisfied them with jewels befitting his greatness, and having placed them and their retinues on the path of the ten virtuous actions, he sent them back to their respective lands. Then, gradually, the news reached King Sal Tob. Having heard it, he first sent a messenger, and then very quickly set out with all his great army. After some time, in order to pay homage to King Sonam Tob, he fainted from the grief in his heart, his eyes filled with tears, and he burst into tears, his eyes completely filled with tears. Descending from the back of the elephant, without hesitation, he embraced the neck of King Sonam Tob, and also placed his head on his head, and after contemplating for a long time, he said, 'Young son, now understand what I am saying! I am now old and decrepit, and about to lose the kingdom.'

Unable to bear it, he said, "Take away the burden of the kingdom," King Bright Power then removed the silk headdress, diadem, and head ornaments from his own head. Then, gradually, King Sonam Tob (Fortunate Power) came to wield power over the dominion of kingship in all of Jambudvipa. He filled all the many beings dwelling in Jambudvipa with gold and silver as they desired and placed them on the path of the ten virtuous actions. At that time, there were no poor or sick people in this Jambudvipa. All the people of Jambudvipa became happy, without disease and full of strength, with flourishing senses, rich and with much wealth and great enjoyment, with much wealth and provisions, with much property, and with much wealth, grain, gold, silver, treasuries, and granaries. All of this Jambudvipa was prosperous, flourishing, happy, with good harvests, filled with beings and many people, with quarrels and fights pacified, without conflicts, internal strife, thieves, diseases, and famine, and possessed of rice, sugarcane, cattle, and buffaloes, so that there were no thorns, stones, gravel, and pebbles. The trees of flowers and fruits always flourished, and the gods also always sent down a good stream of rain, and the grain was exceedingly abundant. Then all the many beings were filled with joy and relied on merit, always giving gifts and making merit. They remained in retreat and perfectly took and kept the precepts. At that time, all those who died as humans in Jambudvipa would depart from their bodies and be born among the gods, and mostly they would be born among the gods of the Four Great Kings. King Sonam Tob also placed countless sentient beings in the benefits of this life and future lives, and having passed away with many thousands of attendants and sentient beings, he was born in the heaven of Tushita. Monks, do you think that the one who became King Sonam Tob at that time was someone else? Do not see it that way, it was I myself.

At that time, at that time, he became a Bodhisattva. The father of King Fortune Power, the king named Bright Power, was the present King Suddhodana, and at that time he became the king named Bright Power. The one who became the consort named Universal Joy was the present Great Maya. The one who became the young and handsome youth was the son of Sravasti, the monk Ananda. The one who possessed diligence was the monk Koshika, who was born twenty hundred thousand times. The one who possessed craftsmanship was the monk Avanti. The one who possessed wisdom was the monk Sariputra. The one who was the lord of the gods, Indra, was the monk Maudgalyayana. The one who ascended to the throne as Fortune Power after the king died was the demon Mara Papiyas. The one in whose poor house the youth Fortune Power entered was the monk Rahula. The king cut off the man's hands and feet, and the youth Fortune Power satisfied him with his own blood, and continued with his own hands and feet, and by the encouragement of truth, restored the body as it was before, that was the monk Kaundinya, and at that time he became the doctor who provided medicine to the king. Monks, therefore, know that whatever merit there is, it is beneficial to all sentient beings in all these circumstances and in every way. Monks, therefore, I say that I have not truly seen anything else that benefits sentient beings like merit. After speaking, the monks became doubtful, and in order to dispel all doubts, they asked the Blessed One Buddha: Venerable one, what deeds did King Fortune Power do, that the ripening of that deed made him so famous, becoming a powerful king? Gods and humans all offered gifts to the king, and whatever he thought and needed, just thinking about it, it would fall from the sky, and even when he was born, the earth shook, and a rain of heavenly jewels fell.
