As soon as the sun set, he was placed on the lion throne of the gods, and the lord of the gods, Indra himself, held the hand towel and held the umbrella of the gods, and inexhaustible treasures also appeared. The Blessed One said: Monks, King Sonam Tob himself has obtained the resources and is endowed with the completion of the causes, and appears like crossing a difficult ford. Because he has done and accumulated those deeds that will not be devoured by demons, therefore, monks, who else will experience those deeds done and accumulated by Sonam Tob himself? Monks, the deeds done and accumulated will not mature in the external realm of earth, nor will they mature in the realm of water, fire, and wind. The good and non-good deeds done and accumulated will only mature in the aggregates, realms, and sources that are grasped. The deeds of sentient beings, even for hundreds of kalpas, will not be destroyed. When the time of gathering comes, they will mature as fruits. Monks, in the past, there was a teacher, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, the Sugata, the knower of the world, the tamer of beings, the unsurpassed, the teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha, the Blessed One, named Invincible, who appeared in the world. Later, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, Invincible, having completed all the deeds of the Buddha, in a certain palace vicinity, like a fire that has consumed its fuel, entered the realm of nirvana without remainder. Afterwards, a king built a stupa for his relics and established festival rituals. Later, when the stupa festival was held, the ghanta was struck, and the drums were beaten, and the conch shell was blown. A monk was sitting in a large assembly, and in the afternoon, he was teaching the Dharma to hundreds of thousands of beings who had gathered. At that time, in that palace vicinity, there lived a gambler named Gambler Winner, who was very addicted to gambling. His wife was named Victorious Mother, and his son was named Victorious Son.

Then, after a while, that gambler king, wearing a coarse cloth, with nothing but an umbrella, a pair of shoes, and five alms bowls, stayed at home. All the things outside had vanished like decorations, and he was tormented by suffering and unbearable discomfort, saying, "Alas, not accumulating merit and being poor is truly terrible!" Having said this, he let out a long, hot breath, put on the pair of shoes, took the five alms bowls and the umbrella, and left the gambling place. He gradually went to the place where people were listening to the Dharma, and seeing such an assembly there, with many people joining their palms and listening to the Dharma, he felt great joy, thinking, "I will see what kind of Dharma they are teaching." So, he put the umbrella aside, took off his shoes, pricked up his ears, joined his palms, and sat down to listen to the Dharma. After a while, the Dharma speaker recited this verse: Accumulating merit leads to happiness, therefore people should do good, should do good again and again, and should desire to do good. Having said this. Then, he heard this verse and thought, "Accumulating merit leads to happiness, that is indeed so. Because I am living so miserably as I am now, it must be that I did not accumulate merit in my previous life. I will do a little merit." So, thinking this, he began to think about what he had. After a while, he saw that he was wearing a coarse cloth, had an umbrella, a pair of shoes, and the remaining five alms bowls. Everything else had vanished like decorations, and he began to think: If I give away the five alms bowls and the coarse cloth, I might starve to death. But if I don't give them away, I will have to go to the next world without merit, where I will suffer various kinds of poverty again and again. Is there any way to avoid starving to death and also share in merit? He thought again: Rather than going to the next world without merit, it would be better to starve to death. These five alms bowls and the coarse cloth must be given away.

Thinking to do so. When he thought like that, the preacher again spoke this different verse: If one does good deeds slowly, one will especially like evil. Therefore, one should quickly do good deeds, and also turn one's mind away from evil. Thus he spoke. After that, having heard this verse, he thought: Since it was said to quickly do good deeds, then one should give alms immediately. After that, that gambler, exhausted by the suffering of poverty, with strong faith, held an umbrella over the head of the preacher sitting on the lion throne, placed two shoes at his feet, scattered those five gold coins on the preacher's feet, took off the clothes from his body and covered the preacher's feet, all the hairs on his body stood up, and faith arose. He knelt on both knees, and with strong faith began to pray: By this root of virtue, aspiration, and complete giving for the sake of the Dharma, may I not be poor from this life onwards! May I be famous for merit in all lifetimes! May gods and humans also enthrone me as king! May all that I think and desire be accomplished from the sky! May many wonderful and rare things also occur when I am born! May inexhaustible treasures of many jewels and various jewels also appear! When he prayed in this way, the preacher also recited the dedication, and everyone present heard it. The victorious gambler also thought in his heart about the giving for the sake of the Dharma, and wearing only one cloth, returned to his own home, where his wife and son saw him. After that, his wife and son thought: Where has this person squandered his clothes and ornaments? They became unhappy and said: Now we two will also exhaust our bodies, we two will also be squandered by him. He felt ashamed and thought: I have fallen into this state because of the fault of poverty, and so he spoke in verse: What suffering is the most suffering? Poverty is the most suffering! What is the most
