I, having pacified strife, and being without war, internal strife, thieves, famine, and diseases, and being endowed with rice, sugarcane, cattle, and buffaloes, without harm, governed the kingdom like one would care for a single child in a thorn bush. Then, after a while, he sported and rejoiced with the queen. As he sported and rejoiced, the queen conceived. After eight or nine months, she gave birth to a boy, who was born wearing colored Dharma robes, having the appearance of a renunciate, and remembering his past lives. Immediately after being born, he asked, 'Are the Blessed One, Shariputra, Maudgalyayana, Kashyapa, Ananda, and other great Shravakas here?' Then his mother was amazed and, filled with joy, said, 'Son, the Blessed One and the great Shravakas are here.' Then, after a while, the matter was reported to King Prasenajit, saying, 'Your son was born wearing colored Dharma robes, having the appearance of a renunciate, and remembering his past lives, and he also knows where the Blessed One and the great Shravakas are.' Then, in order to benefit the child, King Prasenajit invited the Blessed One and the Sangha of Shravakas for a meal. Then the Blessed One, attended by the assembly of monks, with the Sangha of monks leading the way, went to the residence of King Prasenajit and sat on the seat prepared in the midst of the Sangha of monks. Then King Prasenajit of Kosala took the child in his lap and presented him before the Blessed One, saying, 'Blessed One, this child of mine remembers the Blessed One and the great Shravakas as soon as he is born.' Then the Blessed One said to the child, 'May you be free from illness, holder of the three baskets.' Then he said, 'I prostrate to the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened One.' Then King Prasenajit was greatly amazed. Then, when he was born and was seven years old,

At that old age, wearing those colorful Dharma robes, he renounced in the teachings of the Blessed One. Through diligence, practice, and effort, he realized that this wheel of five-eyed samsara is wavering and unstable, thereby thoroughly determining that the nature of all conditioned phenomena is decay, decline, dissipation, and destruction. He abandoned all defilements and directly realized the state of an Arhat. The Arhat, having become free from the desires of the three realms, regarded gold and gravel as equal, possessed a mind as open as the sky and the palm of his hand, became as cool as sandalwood soaked in water, and shattered the shell of ignorance with wisdom. He attained wisdom, supernormal powers, and individual perfect knowledge, not looking to worldly gain, attachment, and reverence. He became an object of worship, remembrance, respect, and praise by the gods, including those with power and attendants. Then, the monks arose with doubts and asked the Buddha, the Blessed One, who cuts off all doubts: 'Venerable one, what deeds did the Tripitaka master perform that he was born wearing colorful Dharma robes, in the form of a renunciate, remembering his past lives, and after renouncing, directly realized the state of an Arhat?' The Blessed One replied: 'Monks, this Tripitaka master, in previous lives, accumulated merit and possessed the necessary conditions, emerging like a flood breaking through a dam. He performed and accumulated those deeds that would not be in vain. Who else could experience the deeds done and accumulated by this Tripitaka master? Monks, deeds done and accumulated do not ripen in the external earth element, nor do they ripen in the water, fire, or wind elements. The performance and accumulation of virtuous and non-virtuous deeds will only ripen on the aggregates, elements, and sense bases that are grasped.' The deeds of sentient beings, even after hundreds of thousands of kalpas, will not be exhausted. When the conditions gather and the time is ripe, the fruit will surely manifest. Monks, long ago in the past, in this very fortunate kalpa, when the lifespan of beings reached twenty thousand years, he perfectly awakened.
