I said to Ānanda: "Teacher, I wish to offer a meal to the Blessed One and the Sangha of Śrāvakas." The Venerable Ānanda said: "Child, Kārṣāpaṇas are needed." Then, the boy holding gold stood before the Sangha of monks, including the Buddha, and, extending his two hands, piled up a great heap of gold and silver. Then, the elders of the Sangha, the other monks, and the Venerable Ānanda, seeing this, were exceedingly astonished. Then, the boy holding gold offered a meal to the Sangha of monks, including the Buddha, and sat before the Blessed One in order to listen to the Dharma. Then, the Blessed One, understanding his thoughts, predispositions, nature, and character, taught him the Dharma in such a way that he would realize the Four Noble Truths. Having heard this, the boy holding gold, having shattered the twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates with the vajra of wisdom, directly realized the fruit of stream-entry. Having seen the truth, he distributed his wealth to his relatives, satisfied the Śramaṇas, Brahmins, the poor, and the destitute, and having informed his parents, he went forth into the doctrine of the Blessed One. Through diligence, practice, and effort, he realized that this wheel of the five-eyed body of cyclic existence is wavering and unstable, and he thoroughly understood that all conditioned phenomena are of the nature of decay, decline, disintegration, and destruction. Having abandoned all defilements, he directly realized the state of an Arhat. The Arhat, having become free from the desire of the three realms, with a mind that is equal to gold and dung, like the sky and the palm of the hand, having become cool like sandalwood soaked in water, having shattered the shell of the egg with wisdom, having obtained wisdom, supernormal powers, and analytical knowledge, not looking to the gains, attachments, and honors of existence, became an object of offering, remembrance, and reverence by the gods, including the powerful ones and their retinues. Then, the monks became doubtful and asked the Buddha, the Blessed One, who cuts off all doubts:

What deeds did the Venerable Gold-in-Hand perform? As a result, two gold coins with markings appeared from his two palms. After ordaining, he personally attained the state of an Arhat. The Blessed One declared: Monks, Gold-in-Hand, in other past lives, accumulated merit and possessed the necessary conditions, appearing as if crossing a difficult ford. Because he performed and accumulated those deeds that would not be wasted, who else would experience those deeds performed and accumulated by Gold-in-Hand? Monks, the deeds performed and accumulated do not ripen in the external realm of earth, nor do they ripen in the realms of water, fire, or wind. The virtuous and non-virtuous deeds performed and accumulated ripen solely in the aggregates, realms, and sources that are grasped. The deeds of sentient beings will not be exhausted even in hundreds of eons. When they gather and the time is ripe, they will manifest as their fruit. Monks, in the past, in a bygone era, in this very Fortunate Aeon, when the lifespan of beings reached twenty thousand years, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Sugata, Knower of the World, unsurpassed guide of beings to be tamed, teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha, the Bhagavan named Light Protector, appeared in the world. He resided and dwelt in the Deer Park where sages speak in the city of Varanasi. Then, the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha Light Protector, having completed all the deeds of a Buddha, like a fire that has consumed its fuel, passed completely into the realm of Nirvana without residue. King Krikī made offerings to his relics and built a stupa made of four kinds of precious jewels, one yojana in circumference and one krosha in height. During the festival of that stupa, a gambler hung two gold coins on the stupa's life-tree. Then, he prostrated at the feet of the stupa and made the aspiration: Wherever I am born, may I have gold in my hands.

May it just become that," he said. The Blessed One said: "Monks, what do you think? The gambler at that time was this gold-bearing one. Because he offered two gold coins to the stupa, he became so special. Because of the prayer he made, he has now realized the state of an Arhat. Monks, thus, those actions that are definitely black will definitely have black results. Those actions that are definitely white will definitely have white results. Mixed actions will have mixed results. Therefore, monks, abandon those actions that are definitely black and mixed actions, and focus only on those actions that are definitely white. Monks, you should train yourselves in this way." After the Blessed One had spoken thus, those monks rejoiced, and greatly praised what the Blessed One had said. The hundred Jataka tales, beginning with Gambo, the nineteenth volume, called the Tripitaka: The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, were honored by kings, great ministers, wealthy people, people of the palace retinue, merchants, captains, gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and great belly-crawlers. They were revered as teachers, depicted, and offered to. The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, who were offered to and known by gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and great belly-crawlers, possessed great merit and obtained robes, food, bedding, cushions, medicine, and medical supplies. Accompanied by the Sangha of Shravakas, he resided in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove of Prince Jeta, in the garden of Anathapindika. At that time, in Shravasti, King Prasenajit of Kosala was reigning. During that time, there was wealth, prosperity, peace, good harvests, and it was filled with people and many people, and strife.
