In that situation, that sent maidservant, seeing the Blessed One and the Sangha of Hearers on the road, she became happy and had the thought: What does it matter if I am made a slave twice by the master? I must offer food to the Blessed One without fail. Then, by killing, binding, beating, and threatening, she opened the box of rice and satisfied the Blessed One and the Sangha of Hearers with various foods. After that, she went to the merchant, and after a while, the merchant asked the maidservant, what is that box of rice? She replied, I offered food to the Blessed One, the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha Kashyapa. The merchant, hearing that, was greatly amazed. Then, he said, rejoicing, satisfied, and exceedingly happy: Maidservant, from today onwards you are freed from the status of a slave, go! You have done auspicious things for me while I was sleeping. Then, she folded her hands and requested the householder: May I be allowed to be ordained in the doctrine of the Blessed One? Then, that householder also gave her a begging bowl and robes. Taking the begging bowl and robes given by the master, she was ordained in the doctrine of the Blessed One. She served the doctrine of the Blessed One Kashyapa for nine thousand years, offering rice, yogurt, soup, the ever-turning wheel of Dharma, inviting guests, garlands of lamps, firm robes, and also giving and excellent giving, and prayed: By the roots of virtue of giving and excellent giving to the Blessed One Kashyapa, which I have accomplished with effort, and by generating the mind of enlightenment and completely giving away the Dharma to be given, may I obtain the opportunity to be ordained in the doctrine of the Blessed One Shakyamuni. The Blessed One said: Monks, what do you think? At that time, at that moment, that sent maidservant was this Utpalavarna, and because she offered food to the Blessed One Kashyapa, she was born into a wealthy family, with a good appearance, pleasing to look at, and beautiful.

He was revered by all. Through his prayers, he has now realized the state of an Arhat. Monks, therefore, actions that are definitely dark will definitely have dark results. Actions that are definitely bright will definitely have bright results. Mixed actions will have mixed results. Monks, therefore, abandon actions that are definitely dark and mixed actions, and dedicate yourselves solely to actions that are definitely bright. Monks, you should train yourselves in this way. After the Blessed One had spoken thus, the monks rejoiced and praised what the Blessed One had said. The Sutra of the White Woman is as follows: The Buddha, the Blessed One, was honored, respected, revered, and worshipped by kings, great ministers, wealthy people, palace attendants, merchants, captains, gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas. The Buddha, the Blessed One, was worshipped and known by gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, possessed great merit, and had obtained robes, food, bedding, seats, medicines, and medical supplies. He was residing in the Nyagrodha Garden in Kapilavastu, together with the monastic community of shravakas. At that time, among the Shakyas, there was a Shakya named Snarma, who was rich, wealthy, and enjoyed great prosperity, possessing vast and extensive holdings, possessing the wealth of Vaishravana, and rivaling the wealth of Vaishravana. He took a wife from his own clan, and together with her, he played, rejoiced, and enjoyed himself. Although he played, rejoiced, and enjoyed himself, he had neither a son nor a daughter. He clasped his hands together and thought: Although I possess many household treasures, I have neither a son nor a daughter, and after my death, the property of the sonless

Thinking, 'All his possessions will belong to the king,' he kept this in mind. Then, monks, Brahmins, diviners, friends, relatives, and other attendants urged him to pray to the gods. So, because he was childless and desired a son, he prayed to Gulang, the water deity, Kubera, Indra, Brahma, and other various deities. For example, he prayed to the garden deity, the forest deity, the crossroads deity, the triple intersection deity, the deity who receives torma offerings, the co-born deity, the deity who is in accordance with the Dharma, and the deities who always follow. In the world, there is a saying that sons and daughters are born through prayer, but this is not the case. If sons and daughters were born through prayer, then like a Chakravartin king, each person should have a thousand sons. In reality, sons and daughters are born from the assembly of three conditions. What three? The parents' desire arises and they unite, the mother is in season and has her menstruation, and a Gandharva arrives. It is from the assembly of these three conditions that sons and daughters are born. Then, he continued to focus on praying. A certain being died and transmigrated from a certain class of beings, entered his wife's womb, and thus impregnated his wife. Then, his wife said: 'Virtuous woman, if you give birth to a son, that would be excellent. But if you give birth to a daughter, you and she will be expelled from the house.' After some time, when she was eight or nine months pregnant, she gave birth to a daughter. The daughter was beautiful, pleasing to the eye, and lovely, surpassing the complexion of humans, but not yet attaining the complexion of the gods. She was born wearing white clothes, unstained by the impurities of the womb. After some time, Shakya Narma heard the news that his wife had given birth to a child, a daughter. Upon hearing this, he became very angry and went inside. Then, his wife presented the daughter wearing divine clothes. When Shakya Narma saw the daughter, he was greatly amazed, held a celebration for her birth, and wondered what name this daughter should be given.
