It will not perish without maturing. The good and non-good deeds that have been done and accumulated will only mature in the aggregates, elements, and sense bases that have been taken up. The actions of sentient beings will not be lost even after hundreds of eons. When the conditions are gathered and the time has come, they will mature into their own fruit. Monks, in the past, in this very fortunate eon, when the lifespan of beings was twenty thousand years, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Gone to Bliss, Knower of the World, unsurpassed guide of beings to be tamed, teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha, the Bhagavan named Light Protector, appeared in the world. He dwelt and resided in the Deer Park at the Hermitage of the Rishis in the city of Varanasi. Then, after a while, a merchant's daughter in that place went forth into the teachings of the Bhagavan Light Protector. She gave offerings and great offerings to the teachings of the Bhagavan Light Protector, and maintained the practice of celibacy for twenty thousand years, but did not attain any accumulation of qualities. The abbess from whom she went forth was shown by the Bhagavan Light Protector to be the foremost of the wise. Then she made the aspiration: Just as my abbess has been shown to be the foremost of the wise, so too, in the future, may I, in the teachings of the Bhagavan Light Protector, who said to the Brahmin boy, 'Brahmin boy, when the lifespan of beings is one hundred years, you will become the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, Shakyamuni,' go forth and become the foremost of the wise. The Bhagavan said: Monks, what do you think? The one who was the merchant's daughter at that time and in that era is this nun Delight-giver. Because she gave offerings and great offerings, she was born into a wealthy royal family. Because she maintained the practice of celibacy for twenty thousand years, she has now directly realized Arhatship. Monks, thus, one action.

Those actions that are definitely black, their ripening will also definitely be black. Those actions that are definitely white, their ripening will also definitely be white. Those actions that are mixed, their ripening will also be mixed. Therefore, monks, abandon those actions that are definitely black and those that are mixed, and devote yourselves solely to those actions that are definitely white. Monks, you should train yourselves in this way. After the Blessed One had spoken thus, those monks rejoiced and praised what the Blessed One had said. What is called "Unpleasant" is this: The Blessed Buddha was honored by kings, great ministers, wealthy people, palace attendants, merchants, navigators, gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas. They revered him, regarded him as their teacher, drew his image, and made offerings to him. The Blessed Buddha, who was worshiped and known by gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, possessed great merit and had obtained robes, food, bedding, seats, medicine for the sick, and medical supplies. Together with the monastic community of hearers, he was dwelling in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, in the Garden of Anathapindika. At that time, King Prasenajit of Kosala was ruling in Shravasti. During his reign, there was prosperity, growth, peace, good harvests, a multitude of people, the cessation of disputes and battles, the absence of conflicts and internal strife, thieves, famine, and diseases. They possessed rice, sugarcane, cattle, and buffaloes. There was no harm, and he ruled the kingdom like a father caring for his only child. Then, after some time, the king was playing and enjoying himself with a certain queen. As he was playing and enjoying himself, the queen became pregnant, and after eight months...
