Asked the father. They said, "Please bring that girl into my arms." Then, the householder Anathapindika sent a messenger to the merchant Gyalwa, saying, "Please give the daughter Mutig to my son. If you do so, you will become relatives and friends for as long as you live." Then, the householder Gyalwa told his daughter about this matter. She said, "If she grows up and vows to renounce the world in the Blessed One's teachings together with me, then I will marry into your family." Then, they did so. After a while, on one occasion, both of them left home and renounced the world in the Blessed One's teachings. Then, through diligence, practice, and effort, he realized that this wheel of the five-eyed cycle of existence was shaking and unstable. He thoroughly understood that all conditioned phenomena are of the nature of decay, fall, dissipation, and destruction. Having abandoned all defilements, he directly realized the state of an Arhat. He became an Arhat free from desire for the three realms, possessing a mind as equal as gold and dung, a mind like the sky and the palm of his hand, a mind as cool as sandalwood soaked in water, having broken the shell of ignorance with wisdom, having attained wisdom, supernormal powers, and individual self-realization. He did not look to worldly gains, attachment, and honor. The gods, including the powerful ones and their attendants, worshipped and remembered him, and he became a place worthy of respect and reverence. Then, the monks became doubtful. To dispel all doubts, they asked the Blessed One, the Buddha. "Venerable Mutig, what deeds did she do that she was born wearing a pearl necklace on her head, and after renouncing the world, she also realized the state of an Arhat?" The Blessed One replied, "Monks, Mutig herself had accumulated merit and possessed the conditions in other past lives, just like crossing a raging river. Because she did and accumulated those deeds that would not be wasted, who else would experience the deeds that Mutig herself did and accumulated? Monks, the deeds done and accumulated are not on the external earth realm."

It will not ripen. The water element, the fire element, and the wind element will not ripen. The virtuous and non-virtuous actions that have been done and accumulated will only ripen in the aggregates, elements, and sense bases that have been taken. The actions of sentient beings, even in hundreds of kalpas, will not be wasted. When they are gathered and the time has come, they will ripen into fruit. Monks, in the past, in the past age, in this very fortunate kalpa, when the life expectancy of beings was twenty thousand years, the Tathagata, Arhat, perfectly complete Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Sugata, Knower of the World, Guide of beings to be tamed, unsurpassed, teacher of gods and humans, Buddha, Bhagavan, named Light Protector, would appear in the world, and he would dwell and reside in the Deer Park where the sages speak in the city of Varanasi. Then, after a while, a merchant entered the great ocean, and without any harm, the affairs of the ship were accomplished, and he returned. Then he brought back a string of pearls that was supremely excellent. His wife was also beautiful in form, pleasing to look at, and beautiful, and she put it on her head. Then, in Varanasi, there lived a householder who was faithful, virtuous, and of good mind, engaged in benefiting himself and others, compassionate, magnanimous, and desirous of the Dharma. The thought arose in his mind: 'I should gather faith and hold a five-year festival in the teachings of the Bhagavan Light Protector.' Then he informed King Krika, 'I have gathered faith and wish to hold the Bhagavan's five-year festival.' The king also commanded, 'Do so.' Then that householder rode an elephant and went to the main roads, crossroads, and junctions in the city of Varanasi to gather faith. Then, after a while, the merchant's wife took the pearl necklace from her head and offered it to the one who was gathering faith. Then, after a while, the merchant came and saw that the pearl necklace had been taken from her head and asked, 'Good woman, where is the pearl necklace?' Then she said, 'Lord, the Bhagavan'
