Became radiant, and by that very cause, has now directly realized the state of an Arhat. Monks, in this way, those actions that are definitely dark will definitely have dark results. Those actions that are definitely white will definitely have white results. Mixed actions will have mixed results. Monks, therefore, abandon those actions that are definitely dark and mixed actions, and dedicate yourselves solely to those actions that are definitely white. Monks, you should train yourselves in this way. After the Blessed One had spoken thus, the monks rejoiced and greatly praised what the Blessed One had said. What is called "son" is that the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, are honored, respected, regarded as teachers, depicted (in images), and offered to by kings, great ministers, wealthy people, people of the palace retinue, merchants, captains, gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas. The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, who are worshiped and known by gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, are endowed with great merit and have obtained robes, food, bedding, seats, medicines for the sick, and medical supplies. Accompanied by a community of Shravakas, he was residing in the Nyagrodha Grove in Kapilavastu. At that time, in Kapilavastu, there lived a Shakya who was rich, wealthy, and enjoyed great prosperity, possessing vast and extensive holdings, comparable to the wealth of Vaishravana, and even rivaling the wealth of Vaishravana. He took a wife from his own clan, and together they played, rejoiced, and indulged in pleasure. As he played, rejoiced, and indulged in pleasure, his wife became pregnant. After eight or nine months of pregnancy, she gave birth to a large mass of black flesh. The parents, and others living in the house, servants, relatives, seeing it, became displeased, wondering why such a thing had been born.

Then, after a while, that householder entered the chamber of sorrow, holding his hands to his head, immersed in grief, thinking, "What is this? To whom should I confide? Who knows?" Then it occurred to him: "This Buddha, the Bhagavan, is all-knowing and all-seeing. He surely knows. I should confide in the Buddha, the Bhagavan." Thinking this, he went to where the Bhagavan was, and having arrived, he reported to the Bhagavan. The Bhagavan said: "Householder, do not fear, do not fear. Place that lump of flesh in well-kneaded cotton, and for seven days, stroke it with your hands three times a day, and repeatedly sprinkle it with milk. After that, it will burst open and a hundred sons will be born, and all of them will possess great strength." Then, having heard this, that householder was greatly amazed, thinking: "That I will have such sons is the best gain I have gained." Thinking this, he did as he was told. After seven days, that lump of flesh burst open and a hundred sons were born, all of them handsome, pleasing to the eye, beautiful, possessing all limbs and features, and all possessing great strength. Then, after a while, they gradually grew up and became adults. All of them were proud of their appearance and the fullness of their youth, and wandering around, they went to the Nyagrodha grove. They saw the Buddha, the Bhagavan, whose body was adorned with the thirty-two major marks of a great being, beautified by the eighty minor marks, surrounded by a fathom of light, possessing light surpassing a thousand suns, like a moving mountain of jewels, perfect in every way. As soon as they saw him, they developed joy in the Bhagavan. Having developed joy, they prostrated at the feet of the Bhagavan and sat before the Bhagavan in order to listen to the Dharma. Then, the Bhagavan understood their thoughts, habits, dispositions, and nature, and taught them the Dharma in such a way that they would realize the Four Noble Truths. Having heard this, they all had the view of the perishable body

Twenty individuals, having shattered the summit of the high mountain with the wisdom vajra, manifested the fruit of entering the stream. Having realized the truth, they informed their parents and thus renounced within the teachings of the Blessed One. All of them, through diligence, practice, and effort, recognized that this wheel of samsara of the five-eyed ordinary being is wavering and unstable, determining that all conditioned phenomena are of the nature of decay, decline, dissipation, and destruction. Abandoning all defilements, they manifested the state of an Arhat. The Arhats, having become free from desire in the three realms, possessed a mind that equated gold with dung, and likened the sky to the palm of the hand. Having become as cool as sandalwood soaked in water, having shattered the shell of the egg with wisdom, having attained wisdom, supernormal knowledge, and individual self-awareness, they did not look to the gains, attachments, and honors of existence. They became objects of offering, remembrance, and respectful praise by the gods, including the deities with their retinues. Then, the monks arose with doubt. The one who cuts off all doubts, asked the Buddha, the Blessed One: What deeds did these hundred young monks do, that they became brothers and possessed great strength? The Blessed One replied: These ones, in other past lives, accumulated merit and possessed complete conditions. They appeared like bursting through a dam, and because they did and accumulated those deeds that would not be in vain, how could others experience those deeds done and accumulated by these ones? Monks, the deeds done and accumulated will not ripen in the external earth element, nor will they ripen in the water element, the fire element, or the wind element. The virtuous and non-virtuous deeds done and accumulated will only ripen on the aggregates, elements, and sense bases that are grasped. The deeds of sentient beings will not be exhausted even in hundreds of eons. Once accumulated and the time has come, they will ripen into their own fruit. Monks, in the past, long ago, ninety-one eons ago, there was a Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened Buddha named Wisdom.
