Recognizing that this wheel is moving and unstable, and thoroughly understanding that the nature of all conditioned phenomena is decay, fall, dissipation, and destruction, he abandoned all defilements and realized the state of Arhat. The Arhat, having become free from the desires of the three realms, is equal to gold and dung, with a mind as open as the sky and the palm of the hand, as cool as sandalwood soaked in water. He shattered the eggshell with wisdom, attained wisdom, supernormal powers, and discriminating knowledge, and does not look to worldly gain, attachment, and respect. He became a place of worship, reverence, and respectful praise by the gods with power and attendants. Then, when the venerable Nyima went for alms, the unbelieving Brahmins and householders mocked, insulted, and secretly ridiculed him. They said, "This man carries a precious jewel on his head and wanders in the main roads, streets, crossroads, and intersections. The practice of the Shakya's renunciates is shameful! The practice of the Brahmins is shameful!" Then he became very ashamed and went to the Blessed One, prostrated at the feet of the Blessed One, and said to the Blessed One, "Blessed One, please make my precious jewel disappear." The Blessed One said, "Child, this is born from karma, so it cannot be made to disappear. But it can be done so that those with faith will see it, and those without faith will not see it." Then the Blessed One did so. Then the monks became doubtful and asked the Buddha, the Blessed One, who cuts off all doubts, "Venerable Nyima, what deeds did he do that he became so famous and attained the state of Arhat?" The Blessed One said, "Nyima himself accumulated merit and possessed the conditions for accomplishment in other past lives. Because he did and accumulated those deeds that come like a flood and will not be devoured by demons, who else will experience the deeds that Nyima himself did and accumulated? Monks,

The actions done and accumulated will not mature in the external realm of earth; they will not mature in the realm of water, the realm of fire, or the realm of wind. The virtuous and non-virtuous actions done and accumulated will mature only in the aggregates, realms, and sources that are grasped. The actions of sentient beings will not be exhausted even in a hundred eons; when they are gathered and the time has come, they will ripen into their own fruit. Monks, in the past, in a bygone era, ninety-one eons ago, there appeared in the world the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Well-Gone, Knower of the World, Guide of beings to be tamed, unsurpassed, teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha, the Bhagavan, named Vipashyin. He resided in the royal palace of the king's relatives. After a while, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha Vipashyin accomplished all the deeds of a Buddha, and like a fire that has consumed its fuel, he completely passed into the realm of Nirvana without residue. Then, King Kinsman made offerings to the relics of that Bhagavan, and built a stupa made of four kinds of precious jewels, one yojana in circumference and one krosha in height. There, hundreds of thousands of beings, having paid their respects, will go to higher realms and liberation. Then, when the offerings to that stupa began, Brahmins and faithful householders made offerings with incense, flower garlands, various perfumes, umbrellas, banners, flags, and the sounds of music. Then, after a while, a man, playing with the king and gamblers, won a precious cat's eye gem in a game of dice. Then, he generated faith and sewed that gem onto his clothes, offered it to the stupa of the Bhagavan Vipashyin, prostrated at his feet, and made the aspiration: "By this root of virtue, generation of the mind of enlightenment, and act of giving, may I also attain such qualities, may I please such a teacher, and not displease him."

May it not be so! May a jewel like this, while being worn on the crown of the head, also be born from the mother's womb! The Blessed One said: Monks, what do you think? The one who performed illusions at the crossroads at that time was none other than myself today. Because he had shown respect to the stupa of the Blessed One Vipashyin and offered jewels, therefore, jewels could appear on the crown of his head, and because of that cause, his appearance was upright, beautiful, and pleasing, and he personally attained the state of an Arhat. Monks, therefore, actions that are definitely black will definitely have a black result. Actions that are definitely white will definitely have a white result. Mixed actions will have mixed results. Monks, therefore, abandon actions that are definitely black and mixed actions, and focus solely on actions that are definitely white. Monks, you should train in this way. After the Blessed One spoke these words, those monks rejoiced and praised the words spoken by the Blessed One. The "Great Banner": Kings, great ministers, wealthy people, palace attendants, merchants, ship captains, gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas all showed respect to the Buddha, the Blessed One, revered him as their teacher, made images of him, and made offerings. The Buddha, the Blessed One, who was offered to and known by gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, possessed great merit, obtained robes, food, bedding, cushions, medicines, and other necessities, and resided with the monastic community of shravakas in the Nyagrodha Garden in Kapilavastu. At that time, the Shakyas in Kapilavastu were rich, wealthy, and enjoyed great prosperity, fully possessing...
