It is vast and extensive, possessing the wealth of the son of Vaishravana. One who rivals the wealth of the son of Vaishravana resides there. He takes a wife from his own clan, and together they play and rejoice, enjoying themselves with delight and joy. As he plays and rejoices, enjoying himself with delight and joy, his wife becomes pregnant. After eight or nine months, she gives birth to a son, a boy with a beautiful form, pleasing to behold and handsome, surpassing the complexion of humans, but not yet having attained the complexion of the gods. At the time of the boy's birth, the gods erected divine banners all around him. They also played divine musical instruments. They scattered divine flowers, such as utpala, lotuses, kumuda, and white lotuses, so that the entire city of Serkya's realm was filled with fame. In every household, they also raised banners for this reason. Then, they held a birth celebration for him and discussed what name to give the boy. The relatives said, "Since the fame of this boy has spread throughout the world upon his birth, let us name him 'Fame'." Then, the boy Fame was entrusted to eight nurses: two nurses who nurtured him in their laps, two nurses who nursed him, two nurses who washed away impurities, and two nurses who played with him. Those eight nurses raised him with milk, yogurt, butter, ghee, the essence of butter, and other excellent provisions, so that he grew vigorously like a lotus in a lake. He was also endowed with faith, virtuous, with a good heart, engaged in benefiting himself and others, compassionate, magnanimous, and desiring the Dharma. Later, at some point, the boy Fame went to the Nyagrodha Garden, and he saw the Buddha, the Bhagavan, perfectly adorned with the thirty-two marks of a great being, beautified with the eighty minor marks, possessing a fathom of light, having light surpassing a thousand suns, perfect like a moving mountain of jewels. Upon seeing him, he immediately generated joy in the Bhagavan. Having generated joy, he prostrated at the feet of the Bhagavan in order to listen to the Dharma.

He dwelt before the Blessed One. Then, having understood his thoughts, habits, inclinations, and nature, the Blessed One taught him the Dharma in such a way that he would realize the Four Noble Truths. Having heard this, the boy Fame, with the vajra of wisdom, shattered the twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates, and having attained the fruit of stream-entry, he saw the truth. He gave alms and great alms, satisfying mendicants, Brahmins, the poor, and the afflicted, and having served his parents, he went forth into the teachings of the Blessed One. Through diligence, practice, and effort, he realized that this wheel of the five-eyed cycle of existence was wavering and unstable. He thoroughly understood that all conditioned phenomena are by nature subject to decay, decline, disintegration, and destruction. Having abandoned all defilements, he directly realized the state of an Arhat. The Arhat, having become free from attachment to the three realms, possessed a mind that regarded gold and clods of earth as equal, a mind like the sky and the palm of his hand, having become as cool as sandalwood soaked in water, having shattered the shell of ignorance with wisdom, he obtained knowledge, supernormal powers, and individual self-awareness. He did not look to worldly gain, attachment, or honor, and became an object of worship, remembrance, reverence, and respect by the gods, including their retinues. He also used robes that had been requested and offered, and he used little of what had not been requested and offered. He used food, bedding, cushions, medicine, and medical supplies that had been requested and offered, and he used little of what had not been requested and offered. Then, the monks became doubtful and asked the Buddha, the Blessed One, who cuts off all doubts: "Venerable Fame, what deeds did he do that, as soon as he was born, the gods raised banners, and he became famous in the world, and having gone forth, he attained the state of an Arhat?" The Blessed One said: "Monks, Fame himself, in other past lives, had accumulated merit and possessed favorable conditions. He did those deeds that, like crossing a difficult ford, would come without being devoured by obstacles.
