They revered, regarded as teachers, painted images, made offerings, and the gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, etc., worshipped and knew the Buddha, the Blessed One, endowed with great merit, who had obtained robes, food, bedding, cushions, medicines, and medical supplies, together with the assembly of shravakas, resided and stayed in the Kalanda Grove of the Light Garden in Rajagriha. At that time, in the city of Rajagriha, King Bimbisara ruled as king, and during his reign, there was prosperity and abundance, happiness and good harvests, filled with people and many people, disputes and quarrels were pacified, wars and internal strife, thieves and famine, and diseases were absent, and they lived with rice and sugarcane, cattle and buffalo, etc., living peacefully, without harm, and ruling the kingdom like protecting an only child. Then, when King Bimbisara saw the truth from the Blessed One, together with his consorts and retinue, he went to the Blessed One three times a day. Then, King Bimbisara, after some time, when the spring season arrived, in the forest where trees and flowers bloomed, and swans and cranes, peacocks and parrots, partridges and cuckoos, and jivamjivakas made sounds, in the pleasure garden, he went with his noble consort and the retinue of consorts. There, the retinue of consorts pleaded with the king: "O god, we are not able to go to the Blessed One like an umbrella. O god, how about building a stupa of the Tathagata's hair and nails inside the retinue of consorts to cool off? However, we will always honor it with lamps and incense, flowers and fragrances, garlands and unguents, umbrellas and banners, and flags." Then, after a while, King Bimbisara pleaded with the Blessed One: "Blessed One, please grant me hair and nails, however, I will offer them."

在那里建造如来佛塔，祈请洗尘。之后不久，世尊赐予头发和指甲，国王形好（Bimbisara）与妃嫔眷属一起，在妃嫔眷属中以极大的恭敬供养，建造了如来的头发和指甲的佛塔并洗尘。妃嫔眷属用灯、熏香、鲜花、香水、花环、涂香、伞、幢幡等供养它。之后，当国王阿阇世（Ajatasatru）被提婆达多（Devadatta）蛊惑，杀害了如法行事的、具有佛法的父王，自己登上王位时，断绝了一切应供养世尊教法的布施，并立法禁止任何人恭敬如来佛塔。之后，当十五日举行布萨的时候，没有人去清扫头发和指甲的佛塔，也没有人供奉灯、熏香和鲜花。之后，妃嫔眷属们看到头发和指甲的佛塔变成那样，又想起了国王形好（Bimbisara），可怜地哭喊着，哀叹道：“唉，我们因为失去了具有佛法的国王而损减了福德。”其中一位名叫吉祥妃的妃嫔，不惜自己的生命，忆念佛陀的功德，清扫了头发和指甲的佛塔，点燃了灯的队列。之后不久，国王阿阇世来到楼房顶上，看到那巨大的光芒，问道：“这是什么？”有人回答说：“是吉祥妃在头发和指甲的佛塔上点燃了灯的队列。”之后，他召来吉祥妃，问道：“你为何违背国王的命令？”她回答说：“我确实违背了你的命令，但我没有违背具有佛法的国王形好（Bimbisara）的命令。”之后，他愤怒地掷出轮宝，杀死了她。之后，（她）心念世尊。

There, they built a stupa for the Tathagata and requested to cleanse the dust. Then, after a while, the Blessed One gave hair and nails, and King Bimbisara, together with the retinue of consorts, with great reverence among the retinue of consorts, built a stupa for the hair and nails of the Tathagata and cleansed the dust. The retinue of consorts made offerings to it with lamps, incense, flowers, perfumes, garlands, unguents, umbrellas, banners, and flags. Then, when King Ajatasatru was incited by Devadatta, and having killed his father, who acted according to the Dharma and possessed the Dharma, and ascended the throne himself, he cut off all the offerings to be made to the teachings of the Blessed One, and also enacted a law forbidding anyone to venerate the stupa of the Tathagata. Then, when the time came for the Uposatha on the fifteenth day, no one swept the stupa of hair and nails, nor offered lamps, incense, or flowers. Then, the retinue of consorts saw that the stupa of hair and nails had become like that, and also remembered King Bimbisara, and crying out pitifully, lamented, "Alas, we have diminished our merit by being separated from the king who possesses the Dharma." Among them, a consort named Paldenma, risking her own life, remembering the qualities of the Buddha, swept the stupa of hair and nails, and lit a row of lamps. Then, after a while, King Ajatasatru came to the top of a tiered house, and seeing that great light, asked, "What is this?" Someone replied, "Paldenma has lit a row of lamps at the stupa of hair and nails." Then, he summoned Paldenma and said, "Why have you broken the king's command?" She replied, "I have indeed broken your command, but I have not broken the command of King Bimbisara, who possesses the Dharma." Then, he became angry and threw a wheel, killing her. Then, (she) thought of the Blessed One.
