Severing and opening the gates to heaven and liberation, and placing me among gods and humans, such kindness was not bestowed upon me by my father, nor by my mother, nor by the king, nor by the gods, nor by the assembly of family and relatives, nor by previous teachers, nor by ascetics and Brahmins! Furthermore, it is said: The path of evil destinies, filled with many faults, is extremely unbearable, but you have severed it with your power. You have opened the path to heaven, which is full of merit, and I have also attained the path to Nirvana. Today, I have obtained the eye that abandons faults, extremely pure, relying on you. I have crossed the ocean of suffering and attained the peaceful state that pleases the noble ones. The supreme among humans, the powerful one, worshipped by gods and humans, who has abandoned the suffering of birth, aging, and death, the Thubpa (Buddha), who is difficult to see in the cycle of existence, is now seen by me, and the result is complete. Then, the one adorned with necklaces rejoiced, bowed and paid homage to the two feet, circumambulated the Victorious One (Buddha), and, facing the heavenly realm, went to the heavenly abode. Then, that son of a god who was formerly a Brahmin, just as a merchant makes a profit, a farmer has a successful harvest, a warrior triumphs in battle, and a sick person is freed from all diseases, returned to his own abode with the wealth with which he had come before the Blessed One. The monks, not sleeping at dusk and dawn, diligently engaged in exertion, remained in that state. They saw a great light appear before the Blessed One. Having seen it, they became doubtful and asked the Buddha, the Blessed One, who cuts off all doubts: "Blessed One, what is this? Is it Brahma, the lord of the Sahā world, or Indra, the lord of the gods, or the Four Great Kings, who have come to behold the Blessed One?" The Blessed One replied: "Monks, it is not Brahma, the lord of the Sahā world, or Indra, the lord of the gods, or the Four Great Kings, who have come to behold me. But the only son of the Brahmin, who died young, and having rejoiced in me, was born in the good heaven of the Thirty-Three. He came before me last night, and I taught him the Dharma.

Then (the earth) realized the truth and returned to its place. At that time, the Brahmin took his only son, whom he cherished, pitied, loved dearly, found pleasing, who was patient and without fault, to the cemetery, placed him on his lap, and cried out, "Alas, my son! Alas, my dear son! Alas, my only son!" Although his relatives tried to comfort him, they could not revive him. Crows, hawks, vultures, and foxes surrounded him. Women with disheveled hair accompanied him. Many people were watching. Then, the Brahmin's son, who had been reborn as a god, saw his father lamenting and was moved with compassion. To alleviate his father's sorrow, he transformed himself into the form of an ascetic and practiced five austerities near the cemetery. Then, the Brahmin asked the ascetic, "O great ascetic, what do you seek to accomplish through these austerities?" The ascetic said, "I seek to attain kingship. My golden chariot is adorned with various jewels, the sun and moon are my chariot wheels, and the four guardians of the world lead the way. I wish to ride that chariot and circle the entire earth." The Brahmin said, "Even if you practice austerities continuously for a hundred years, even if you practice the highest austerities, you will not obtain that position." The ascetic said, "What do you seek to accomplish by embracing this corpse that reeks of death and is like an unclean log of wood?" The Brahmin said, "My beloved only son has died, and I am mourning for him." The ascetic said, "Even if you weep continuously for a hundred years, you will not be able to revive your son. What good does your weeping do?" Then, the Brahmin thought that the ascetic's words were true and developed faith. Having developed faith, he asked, "Who are you?" Then, the ascetic disappeared from that form and returned to his own form, saying to his father, "I am your only son, who died with joy in his heart for the Blessed One (Sanskrit: Bhagavan, भगवन्, bhagavan, Possessor of Good Fortune), and was reborn in the beautiful heaven of the Thirty-Three (Trayastrimsa). I have come here to alleviate your sorrow. Father, come here, to the Blessed One (Sanskrit: Bhagavan, भगवन्, bhagavan, Possessor of Good Fortune)..."
