This is the supreme Dharma. What is the supreme Sangha? Whatever Sangha, assembly, multitude, or retinue, among these, it is shown that the Shravaka Sangha of the Tathagata is supreme. Whoever has great joy in the Sangha, they have great joy in the supreme. It should be known that the ripening of those who have great joy in the supreme also becomes the supreme, being born as gods among the gods, or being born as humans among humans. This is the supreme Sangha. After the Blessed One spoke thus, those monks rejoiced and praised what the Blessed One had said. Then, after some time, among that herd of buffalo, there was one buffalo that was incredibly strong and possessed supreme power. It would run backward when it smelled the scent of other people. The Blessed One also went in that direction. Then, the herdsmen saw the Blessed One with the assembly of disciples from afar. Then, they shouted loudly: Blessed One, there is a fierce buffalo here, please do not come this way! The Blessed One said: Hey, I know that the time to come here has arrived, do not be afraid. Then, that buffalo saw the Blessed One from afar, raised its tail, and ran towards where the Blessed One was. Then, in front of the Blessed One, five lions with flowing manes were emanated, and on the left and right sides, five great men were emanated. Above, a large iron boulder was emanated. Then, that buffalo saw great fear in all directions, and went to the feet of the Blessed One, licking the feet of the Blessed One with its tongue, and looked at the Blessed One with a dejected expression. Then, the Blessed One said to it, in a language it could understand: Good man, all compounded things are impermanent, all dharmas are without self, Nirvana is peace. He taught it these three phrases of the Dharma, and also made it remember its past lives, and upon hearing that, it wept. Then, the Blessed One at that time spoke in verse: You are born as an animal, what can I do for you now? You have already been born in a state of disadvantage, what good is it to cry in vain? Here is the compassionate Victorious One, generate faith in me, it is best to abandon the animal realm, then you will go to the higher realms. Then, that fierce buffalo despised its own body and opened its mouth, and because the heat of the fire was great in the bodies of the creatures born in the animal realm, it died quickly, and was born in the good heaven of the Thirty-Three. Not long after the son or daughter of the gods was born, by nature, three thoughts would arise: From where did I die and transmigrate, where was I born, and by what karma was I born?

Homage! Then, one who had died and transmigrated from the animal realm and was born in the good heaven of the Thirty-Three, and whose mind was delighted with the Bhagavan, saw it. Then, the son of the gods who was formerly named Her thought to himself: "It is not my way to go to see the Bhagavan only after the fast is over. I will go to see the Bhagavan before the fast is over." Then, the son of the gods who was formerly named Her, wearing earrings that were adorned and moving, his body adorned with necklaces and garlands, wearing a crown adorned with various precious jewels, his body smeared with saffron, tamala leaves, and kara, etc., that very night filled the containers with celestial utpala flowers, lotuses, kumuda, white lotuses, and mandārava, illuminating all those forests with great light, scattering flowers to the Bhagavan, and sat before the Bhagavan in order to listen to the Dharma. Then, the Bhagavan, having understood the thoughts, habits, inclinations, and nature of the son of the gods who was formerly named Her, taught the Dharma in such a way that he would realize the Four Noble Truths. Having heard this, the son of the gods who was formerly named Her, having destroyed the twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates with the vajra of wisdom, attained the fruit of stream-entry. Having seen the truth, he spoke three times words of joy: "Venerable Bhagavan, you have dried up my ocean of blood and tears, crossed the mountain of bones, closed the doors of the evil realms, opened the doors of heaven and liberation, and placed me among gods and humans. Such great kindness was not done for me by my father, nor by my mother, nor by the king, nor by the gods, nor by the assembly of family and relatives, nor by the former sages, nor by the renunciates and brahmins!" He also said: "The path of the evil realms, full of many faults, extremely unbearable, you have cut off with your power. You have opened the path to heaven, full of merit. I have also attained the path of nirvana. Today I have obtained the eye that abandons faults, obtained entirely through reliance on you."
