Those who lead astray should be abandoned, and only those who are definitely pure should be entrusted with the task. Monks, you should train yourselves in this way. After the Blessed One had spoken thus, those monks rejoiced and praised what the Blessed One had said. The so-called "messenger" is: the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, are honored, respected, regarded as teachers, adorned, and offered to by kings, great ministers, wealthy people, palace attendants, merchants, ship captains, gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas. The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, who are worshiped and known by gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, are endowed with great merit, and have obtained robes, food, bedding, seats, medicines, and medical supplies. Together with the Sangha of Hearers, he vowed to spend the summer retreat in the Bamboo Grove, the Kalandaka residence, in Rajagriha. Then, the householder Anathapindika went to King Pasenadi of Kosala, and after arriving, he greeted the king, saying, "May the king be victorious! May you live long!" And he prayed, saying, "May the gods know that I have not seen the Blessed One for a long time, and I long to see the Blessed One. I long to see the Blessed One." Then the king said to the householder Anathapindika, "Householder, have you heard where the Blessed One is now residing for the summer retreat?" Anathapindika said, "God, I have heard that the Blessed One has vowed to reside in Rajagriha for the summer retreat." Then King Pasenadi of Kosala, the householder Anathapindika, and others, palace attendants, citizens, and ministers, summoned a man as a messenger, saying, "Hey, you come here! Go to where the Blessed One is, and after arriving there, bow your head at the feet of the Blessed One, and convey our words: Blessed One, please

Are you free from illness? Are you free from trouble? Is your movement easy? Do you live? Are you strong? Are you at ease? Are you free from unease? Do you dwell touching ease? Thus he asked. Thus, venerable one, the people of the palace retinue residing in Sravasti with King Prasenajit of Kosala wished to see the Blessed One. They also say: We have not seen the Blessed One for a long time, we are thirsty to see the Blessed One. If we could see the Blessed One, for the sake of compassion, please have the Blessed One go to Sravasti. The Blessed One said: If King Bimbisara allows me to go, I will go. Then that messenger reported to King Bimbisara, and said this to the Blessed One: King Bimbisara has granted permission for the Blessed One to go, Blessed One, now that you think the time has come, please go. Thus he urged. Then the Blessed One did not say anything to that man, indicating permission. Then the Blessed One

After three months of summer had passed, he made robes, finished the robes, and put on the robes. Carrying a bowl, he departed from Shravasti with many attendants. The messenger also departed on a chariot. Then, seeing the Blessed One, Shakyamuni Buddha, walking on foot, he got off the chariot and, bowing with folded hands towards where the Blessed One was, said to the Blessed One: For the sake of compassion, please accept my chariot, Blessed One. The Blessed One said: With the chariot of miraculous feet, truly grant me a place to dwell, unharmed by the thorns of affliction, to wander everywhere on earth. The messenger said: Although the Blessed One walks with miraculous feet, please ride for the benefit of me and for the sake of compassion. Then, for the sake of benefiting the messenger, the Blessed One miraculously sat on the chariot. Then, the Blessed One, riding on the chariot, went to Shravasti, and the messenger also informed the king. Then, the king, ministers, palace attendants, and the people welcomed the Blessed One, and that night they stayed in the Jeta Grove to listen to the Dharma. That messenger was short-lived, and after hearing the Dharma, he died that very night. After his death, he was born in the good heaven of the Thirty-Three. When a son or daughter of the gods is born, naturally three thoughts arise: From where did I die and transmigrate? Where was I born? By what karma was I born? Then, he saw that he had died and transmigrated from the human realm, was born in the good heaven of the Thirty-Three, and his mind was delighted with the Blessed One. Then, the son of the gods, who had previously been a messenger, thought: It is not my way to go to see the Blessed One after a few days. I should go to see the Blessed One without delay. Then, the son of the gods, who had previously been a messenger, wearing earrings that shimmered and swayed, his body adorned with necklaces and bracelets, wearing a crown adorned with various precious jewels, his body smeared with saffron and
