Having died young, he was reborn in the beautiful heaven of the Thirty-three (Trayastriṃśa). As soon as he was born, he received clothes such as no other son or daughter of the gods had. When a son or daughter of the gods is born, before long, by nature, three thoughts arise: From where did I die and transmigrate? Where was I born? By what karma was I born? Then he saw that he had died and transmigrated from the human realm, was born in the beautiful heaven of the Thirty-three, and had offered cloth to the Blessed One (Bhagavan). Then, the daughter of the gods who used to offer cloth, wearing earrings and armlets that swayed, her body adorned with necklaces and girdles, wearing a diadem adorned with various precious jewels, her body smeared with saffron, tamala leaves, and kala and other spices, on that very night, she filled containers with heavenly udumbara flowers, lotuses, water lilies, white lotuses, and mandārava flowers, illuminating the entire Victorious Grove with great light, scattering flowers upon the Blessed One, and sat before the Blessed One in order to listen to the Dharma. Then, the Blessed One, having understood the thoughts, habits, dispositions, and nature of the daughter of the gods who used to offer cloth, taught the Dharma in such a way that she would realize the Four Noble Truths. Having heard this, the daughter of the gods who used to offer cloth, having shattered the twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates with the vajra of wisdom, obtained the fruit of stream-entry. Having seen the truth, she spoke three times in words of joy: Venerable Blessed One, you have dried up my ocean of blood and tears, crossed the mountain of bones, closed the gates of the lower realms, opened the gates to heaven and liberation, and placed me among gods and humans. Such kindness was not done for me by my father, nor by my mother, nor by the king, nor by the gods, nor by the assembly of family and relatives, nor by former companions, nor by ascetics and brahmins. Again she said: The path of the lower realms, full of many faults, extremely unbearable, you have cut off with your power. You have opened the path to heaven, full of merit, leading to Nirvana.

I have also attained the path. Today, I have obtained the pure eye that has abandoned faults, relying entirely on you. I have crossed the ocean of suffering and attained the state of peace and joy of the noble ones. The supreme among humans, worshiped by humans and gods, having abandoned the suffering of birth, aging, and death, the one who is difficult to see in the emptiness of existence, today I have seen the fruit of your presence. Then, the one wearing the necklace became joyful, prostrated and bowed to the two feet, circumambulated the Victorious One, and facing the realm of the gods, went to the heavenly realm. Thereafter, that goddess who offered cloth, just as a merchant gains profit, a farmer reaps a bountiful harvest, a warrior triumphs in battle, and a sick person is freed from all diseases, with whatever wealth she had acquired, she returned to her own abode with that same wealth. The monks, not sleeping at night or dawn, remained diligently engaged in their practice, and they saw a great light appear before the Blessed One. Having seen it, they became doubtful and inquired of the Buddha, the Blessed One, who cuts off all doubts: "Blessed One, was it the ruler of the Saha world, Brahma, or the lord of the gods, Indra, or the Four Great Kings who came to see the Blessed One last night?" The Blessed One replied: "Monks, it was not the ruler of the Saha world, Brahma, nor the lord of the gods, Indra, nor the Four Great Kings who came to see me, but that woman who offered cloth, who, after offering cloth to the householder Anathapindika, died and was reborn in the beautiful heavenly realm of the Thirty-Three, came to me last night, and I taught her the Dharma, and she realized the truth and then returned to her own abode. Monks, therefore, you should train yourselves in this way: you should respect the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha, and you should not be disrespectful. Monks, you should train yourselves in this way." The Blessed One spoke thus, and the monks rejoiced and praised the words spoken by the Blessed One. The story of the parrot is as follows: Kings and great
