Crows, dogs, and foxes surrounded her, cutting, cutting, and devouring her flesh from all directions. She was in extreme pain, uttering desperate cries. I saw that she was experiencing intense and unbearable suffering, burning heat, and unpleasantness. Then, the Venerable Delight became displeased and asked: Sister, what sinful deeds have you done in the past that you are experiencing such suffering? The hungry ghost replied: When the sun rises, there is no need for a lamp. Please report this matter to the Blessed One, and he will prophesy to you the nature of my karma. Hearing this, other sentient beings will also abandon sin. Then, the Venerable Delight went to where the Blessed One was. At that time, the Blessed One had arisen from meditative absorption and was teaching the fourfold assembly the taste of the Dharma, like unrefined honey, and countless retinues were listening to everything full of the taste of the Dharma from the Blessed One without moving their senses. Then, the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, always speak frankly, speak pleasantly, say "Come, welcome," and always smile first. There, the Blessed One said these words to the Venerable Delight: Delight, come, welcome. Where have you come from now? Delight replied: Venerable, I came from the realm of hungry ghosts. There, I saw a female hungry ghost, who was like a tree stump touched by fire, blind and covered with her own hair. Her stomach was as big as a mountain, but her mouth was as small as the eye of a needle. She smelled as foul as a cemetery, and crows, vultures, dogs, and foxes surrounded her, cutting, cutting, and devouring her flesh from all directions. She was in extreme pain, uttering desperate cries. I saw that she was experiencing intense and unbearable suffering, burning heat, and unpleasantness. Again, he reported: Her body is huge like a high mountain, Her lips and throat are dry and extremely ugly. Her own hair covers her face, and she is naked. Her mouth is thin like the eye of a needle, extremely emaciated. Like that, naked and covered with hair, Like a wheel of bones erected. Holding a skull, repulsive, Crying and running everywhere.

Oppressed by hunger and thirst, afflicted by fatigue and suffering, making pitiful sounds, experiencing the feeling of suffering. Therefore, in the human world, having committed extremely terrible sins, therefore, one will experience such terrible suffering. The Blessed One said: The Joyful Mother preta is one who commits evil deeds. Do you want to hear about the ripening of her karma? Venerable one, please listen. Joyful, then listen well and keep it in mind, and I will tell you. Joyful, in the past, in the past time, in this very fortunate kalpa, when the life span of beings was able to reach twenty thousand years, the Tathagata, Arhat, Samyaksaṃbuddha, complete in knowledge and conduct, Sugata, Knower of the World, Guide of beings to be tamed, unsurpassed, teacher of gods and humans, Buddha, Blessed One, named Light Protector, appeared in the world, dwelling and residing in the Deer Park where the hermits spoke in the city of Varanasi. Then, in that city of Varanasi, there was a merchant's daughter who desired the Dharma. Having heard the Dharma, she saw faults in samsara and virtues in nirvana. Having asked her parents, she went forth into the teachings of the Blessed One. Then, for her sake, relatives built a nunnery, and she lived there together with the nuns who were in training and those who were not. But for a time, due to carelessness, she relaxed in the training. Then, the nuns expelled her for breaking her vows. Then, she also cut off the offerings that the patrons and householders offered with faith. She also spoke ill of the nuns who were in training and those who were not. Even when she saw monks who were disciplined, she would close her eyes. Joyful, what do you think? That merchant's daughter is this preta. Because she was stingy towards the monastery, she was born as a preta. Because she cut off the offerings, she is surrounded by crows, vultures, dogs, and foxes. Because she was in training and not in training

Speaking ill of the merits of nuns will make one's body become foul. If one closes their eyes when seeing monks who uphold the precepts, they will become blind. Delightful One, thus it is said, that actions that are definitely black, their ripening will also definitely be black. Actions that are definitely white, their ripening will also definitely be white. Actions that are leading actions, their ripening will also be leading actions. Delightful One, therefore, abandon actions that are definitely black and leading actions, and only dedicate yourself to actions that are definitely white. Delightful One, you should train in this way. When this Dharma discourse was taught, millions of beings realized the truth. Then, the Blessed One said to the monks: "Monks, having understood the faults of stinginess and misconduct of speech, and other faults, you should strive to abandon stinginess and misconduct of speech. Monks, you should train in this way." After the Blessed One had spoken thus, the monks, as well as gods, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, mahoragas, and other beings rejoiced and praised the words of the Blessed One. The term "Merchant Leader" refers to the fact that kings, great ministers, wealthy people, members of the royal palace, merchant leaders, ship captains, gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, mahoragas, and others honored, respected, regarded as teachers, painted images of, and made offerings to the Buddha, the Blessed One. The Buddha, the Blessed One, who was offered to and known by gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, possessed great merit and obtained clothing, food, bedding, seats, medicine, and other necessities. While residing in Shravasti with the monastic community of shravakas, he stayed in the Jeta Grove of Prince Jeta, in the Anathapindika Garden.
