After that, he did village trade, and on the first day he earned four kārṣāpaṇas, and then gave them to his mother, saying: Mother, please use these to offer to ascetics, Brahmins, the poor and destitute, and beggars. After a while, another person said: Your father was a spice trader. So he gave up village trade and did spice trade. After that, he earned eight kārṣāpaṇas, and he also gave them to his mother. After a while, another person said: Your father was a gold and silver trader. So he gave up spice trade and did gold and silver trade. After that, on the first day he earned sixteen kārṣāpaṇas, and he also gave them to his mother. The next day, he earned thirty-two kārṣāpaṇas, and he also gave them to his mother. Later, some jealous gold and silver merchants, realizing that this child knew about trade in all places, said: Friend's son, your father was a sea trader, why do you need this illegitimate livelihood? Who made you do this evil animal trade? After that, he was motivated by the words of the gold and silver merchants, and went to his mother and said: Mother, my father used to do ocean trade.
