Having arisen, he said to the yaksha: Yaksha, do with my body as you please. Then, the lord of the gods, Indra, knowing that the king was as immovable as Mount Sumeru from unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, made the form of the yaksha disappear. He remained in his own form, and with joyful and radiant eyes, holding his son with one hand and his wife with the other, he made the king rejoice and said: Noble man, well done! Well done! With your firm armor and diligence, before long you will manifest unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment and become a Buddha. This is also why you have met your beloved. Then the king said to the lord of the gods, Indra: Kauśika (Sanskrit Devanagari: कौशिक, Sanskrit Romanization: kauśika, Literal meaning: Kauśika), you have fulfilled my Dharma aspirations, well done! Well done! The Blessed One said: Monks, what do you think? At that time, the king named Beautiful Form was me. The youth Beautiful One was Ananda. The Beautiful Mother was Fame-Holder Mother. Monks, at that time I also gave up my relatives and my life for the sake of the Dharma, what need is there to say now? Monks, therefore, you should train like this: Respect the Dharma. Regard it as the supreme teacher. Regard it as an image. Make offerings. Having respected the Dharma, regarded it as the supreme teacher, regarded it as an image, and made offerings, rely on it and abide. Monks, you should train like that. After the Blessed One had spoken thus, the monks rejoiced and praised the Blessed One's words. The Hundred Parables of the Wise and the Fool, and so forth, Volume Nine, called The Daughter of a Beloved Friend. The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, are revered by kings, great ministers, wealthy people, palace attendants, merchants, captains, gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas.

The Blessed One spoke thus: Parents are Brahma, and also the first teacher, worthy of offerings to their son, they are both human and divine. Therefore, those two are places of reverence, with wiping and bathing, and also washing the feet, or with food and drink, clothing, bedding, and mats, the wise should show respect. Having shown respect to parents, therefore those wise ones will not be reproached here, and after death, they will rejoice in the heavens. When the Blessed One spoke this sutra, the monks arose with doubts, and to dispel all doubts, they asked the Blessed Buddha. Reverend Blessed One, it is wonderful that you have praised the great service to parents. The Blessed One said: Monks, now the Tathagata is free from desire, free from hatred, free from delusion, free from birth, old age, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and disturbance, is all-knowing, knows all aspects, and has attained mastery over all wisdom and knowledge. What is so wonderful about praising the great service to parents? In the past, when I was bound by desire, bound by hatred, bound by delusion, and not free from birth, old age, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and disturbance, even a small harm done to my mother caused great suffering, and even a small act of respect caused great happiness. Listen well and keep it in mind, and I will tell you. Monks, in the past, in the city of Varanasi, there lived a merchant named Mitra, who was rich, wealthy, and had great possessions, holding vast and extensive wealth, possessing the wealth of Vaishravana, and rivaling the wealth of Vaishravana. He took a wife from his own clan, and he and she played together, rejoiced, and enjoyed happiness. He played, rejoiced, and enjoyed happiness, but the sons that were born to him died. He hand
